Former Surgeon General Dr. Richard Carmona told a Congressional Committe that he was muzzled by the White House not to speak on health issues for political reasons.  Such issue included emergency contraception and abstinence only education.  He was not allowed to speak at the Special Olympics, it was viewed benefiting political opponents but was ask to speak at events that would help Republican lawmakers.

...however most of the people in the Land of the Free weren't expecting the Spanish Inquisition to rear its ugly head again.......it's almost as if the USA was some sort of quasi religious rogue state.....[:D].......and that can't be true, can it........

philo,
Of course it's true. Liberalism and conservatism are modern day religions followed by zealots equal to those of the Spanish Inquisition, just not as clever with their torture devices.

Compare the "one true religion" dogma of the Catholic church to the positions of the 'scientific left' or the 'scientific right' in the USA is exact down to the exclusionary consideration or agenda accusing opinions of both on opposing views.

My theory is that 'man' requires 'religion'. Modern man may have outgrown the primitive forms and no longer believes in an all knowing, all seeing, unquestioned, divine entity; but the vacuum created by its absence has, in some cases, been filled by similar blind belief forming, what amounts to a new 'religions' and new Messiahs.
