For a good 20 years I never trusted ANYONE w a key to my place.

Anyhow- what criteria should I look for? i should go see mom in Chicago. i sorta trust my 73 yr old babtist neighbor.  tho- if she sees porn it may be..../also i dont know yet if she would stumble into every room.

thoughts??

This question made me laugh  .

I don't even own keys for my house! One huge benefit of living in the boondocks is being able to leave stuff unlocked.
Well that and I get to run around nekkid.

I have full insurance on both home & vehicle. I'd rather someone not break in, if they want in while I'm gone running errands? Then the house is open to them.
The odds of someone actually breaking into this house are really low, I live on a dirt dead end private road & not many cars pass by. In my 12 years living here the only walking people have been Jehovahs Witnesses lol.

As to how to decide who gets a key? I'd go with the neighbor. Just pop a lock onto your bedroom door & keep the porn in there.

Camille, you leave your doors unlocked AND run around nekkid? I'm a bit of a fan of locking doors. But there are a few i would trust with a key.

Um. Yes. I love love totally love living here. Nothing beats dancing naked during a summer rainstorm  .
I do keep the garage door shut but the keys are in my vehicle. I only shut that up to keep the critters out of my garage heh.

ETA: if I'm all nakked where the heck am I supposed to keep keys? They are NOT going to be kept in my hoo-hoo!!

eh, locks are just for honest thieves anyway

if someone wanted something I had bad enough they wouldn't need a key to get it

However, the Rottie that meets them at the door when I'm not home is a very good deterrent

all teh doors are in the cellar- i removed them to get the mortgage. [lead based paint] in the process i cracked the hinges.....]

arghhhhhhhhhh- if it were that easy. of course i have a few valuables or books or papers i prefer to remain "private".   hmmm i have some thinking to do no doubt

A couple of my friends always have keys to my house and even though I live in an urban area, I often leave the house unlocked.  Heck, I left town for a weekend and my front door had a bad habit of not closing right and I came home to find my front door had been wide open for most of the weekend.  I love living downtown!

pahunk do you have some kind of suitcase or trunk you can lock your 'stuff' in? I have one that I use as an end table in my living room & keep stuff in there that I don't want others to see. Heh like my loverly bong collection n such .
All my toys go into a lockbox in my bedroom closet if someone has to check on my pets while I'm gone.

i have 3 safes- and assorted bagggage.  trouble is- ill hide say pills or cash- and not be able to find it.. LOL

i lost my glasses- am waering old pair. they are SOMEWHERE in this 12 room house!  instead of having 1 junk room- now i have 4 junk rooms!  lol

im worried about my tires to make that trip.... cha ching $200 for 2 new front tires... i hate that- the car can use $1200 in maintenance items. i told me bro to get me a car. [he is a wizz] he asked me what i wanted to spend and said no problem. i do this way all teh time. he loves to hagle- i dont. he also can tell an engine simply by the sound.
so 1200 could diffuse 4-6k that im wanting to speand on my next car. [on the lot- price would be 2-3x]

i hear you sista!

i had a buddy in San Fran. well she was on rent control. her landlord she claimed would enter her apartment and steal meat from the freazer. she lived on knob hill. a pricey section. the goal- of course was to get her out- so more cash could be made....

7 years-renting- landlod had no key.
7 year renting from my mom- no key.

i lightened up- my close friend has a key. she is unable to tell a lie. she lives 12 miles away so its too far to housesit- argh

My best friend has an extra key to the house and to the car, as well as my mother's bf and when I am working full time, I leave an extra set in my desk somewhere safe, just in case. Always have. If MJ lived closer, I would offer Him an extra set, just in case; He doesn't so He is outta luck, now the 'extra' key to my chain, THAT is something to think about.

Yep, a lifestyle couple I have known since....geez high school.  Well the female anyway.  They have keys to our house.  They live here close to where we moved.
Also a relative of mine in California has a key, in case you know they were ever in the neighborhood.

No choice for " Lock the door??? Why? "

I live in rural southern Iowa (almost Missouri). If they even see the house, and if the snoopy neighbour doesn't bust them (she notices every strange car and would come see who they were and what they were doing ) and IF they make it to the door......there are two territorial and neurotic german shepherd bitches that they would have to get through. Then, anything of great value that could be carried out easily (jewelry) stays in a very large, and uncarryable, safe. And THEN they gotta get back out of the place, without the neighbour having rousted every gun toting hillbilly and redneck in the surrounding area that would shoot them just for fun. They are always looking for good catfish bait.

Well I had a roommate move out so a lot fewer keys but her and her mom had one, my other roommate, me and my dad as he owns the house.  Currently only my roommate that stayed and I have keys to the house.  Though I too have been known to go away and come home with door wide open, my UM sometimes forgets to completely close it when we leave and the cats paw it the rest of the way open.

i live at the south end of a smaller city & i often forget to shut, let alone lock the doors...i have this philosophy that whatever is in here are just things & if someone feels they need them more than i do, they're welcome to them...i used to live in a number of different places in another city & i was constantly being robbed...my daughter wanted to finish out her high school in that city, so in order to become less tense about the breakins, i decided to think of my things as just borrowed until the real owners would come in the middle of the night & take them away...things get to the point where they possess you......
