People can SAY whatever they want. It's their actions that count. I have had men say to me that they know all about girls like me and what I need afterall they have 20 years experience in the lifestyle. Usually my reply runs along the lines of: "You may have 20 years experience in the lifestyle but you have about 20 minutes experience with me...don't embarrass yourself."

I would say that I have about 2 years worth of experience over the last 20 years. I joined an organization when I was in college. Almost immediately I let my membership lapse and became inactive. The nature of this organization is such that once a member, always a member. A couple years ago, I brought myself active once again. Technically, I've been a member for over 25 years. (They just sent me a pin for it). In practice, I've only been active for a few years total. So one might say bdsm identified for 20 years of which only 2 years were active.

Doing things makes you experienced. Doing them more and more makes you very experienced. I may only have been in the Lifestyle for 5 or so years now,but I am experienced in many things.I'm an Expert in others and still a novice or no experience with other things.

Fast reply to no one in particular.... I knew a guy in high school that was taking the tenth grade for the fourth time. He never bragged about his "experience" with the tenth grade. I'm always leery about those who seem overly anxious to share their "experience". Generally speaking, the claimed passage of time does not seem to correlate well with their demonstrated expertise. And those with the expertise tend to let it speak for itself. John

In such a situation, my answer would be, 'I had a long term relationship a long time ago. I am interested in forming more relationships like my previous one.' 'I have 20 years of experience.' Experience at what? Wearing leather? Cracking whips? Loving another person? Fire play? Twenty years of experience just tells me that you are way older than me. :P To have 'experience' do I have to get that experience by sitting in on lectures of those who are famous within the BDSM circle? Do I need to have an extensive and expensive collection of toys? I would be willing to at least take the extra five or so seconds to clarify exactly what 'x years of experience' has really entailed. When the majority of people start talking about their 'experience' it's like my eyes go glassy and my ears turn off. It just sends this vibe of, 'You may worship me now.' and I'm not interested in worshipping anyone except my Dom. :) It's like when men talk about how big their penis is--not interested. You may have 20 years of experience in flogging and D/s, but what about violet wands or fire play? So, it seems like it would be more informative to at least add, 'Yeah, my favorite things to focus on are D/s and neddles so I have a decent amount of experience with them.' I love hearing people talk about the things they are passionate about and their experiences with them. What bores me are people who puffing up their chest and showing off, because their passion in life is apparently looking very silly.

I had a guy's face down at my shoes a decade ago and threw myself into the pool full throttle. Choked with an illness for about 2 years, but managed a marriage with D/s overtones and an M/s relationship through it. I'm really good at some things, really not as good at others as I'd like to be. I've been pro, after waiting a long time to do it, and I'm non-pro again - because for me, liking SM as much as I do does not make me a good businesswoman when it comes to SM. I think I've crammed a lot into a decade, but I've met people who have more knowledge in specific areas than I am who are younger and with less time in the scene - they're simply more experienced in their thing, a faster study, or what have you. I'm comfortable articulating my experience and my findings based on them. I am very good at sizing up a person quickly and getting into their head quickly in particular - I had to for a while. What a luxury it is now to have lots of time to do that!
