extrapale -> symbols of commitment/BDSM wedding rings? (6/20/2005 4:34:19 PM)

I'm not sure if this should be posted here or under the BDSM equipment boards, but yeah...

My Dom and I are engaged to be engaged, as it were, and we've been talking about what kind of wedding/engagement ring we would like.

Personally, I dream of a more traditional one- diamond solitare, all that jazz. He- he doesn't really even WANT us to have rings. He'd rather brand me, and us not have jewelry at all. We're at opposite ends of the spectrum on this, but are willing to meet in the middle. I'd want to be branded as well as have a ring.

I've been looking in stores and online for "alternative" styles of rings- they don't even have to be wedding rings. But so far I've found nothing that both he and I would like.

So here are the questions I am posing:

Do you know of any stores/websites that have unusual, against the grain rings?

And what did you and your spouse/SO/whatever term is PC these days ([;)]) do for your symbol of commitment? I'm looking for ideas as well.

How about tattoos instead of rings? Tattoo the ring on your finger.

Puzzle rings <grin> They are my favorite type of non-traditional wedding bands, and come in a variety of shapes, number of bands, etc. If you read the history of puzzle rings, it makes them that much more intriguing, imo.

I don't recall where Master bought mine (which was not used as a wedding band), but here are a few links:

Just a fair warning, though, when you remove it and forget to be careful with it, it can be a pain in the behind to solve it...lol.

best regards (and congratulations!)

In performing an average of 4-10 weddings per month, depending on the month, here is some information that may interest you:

The wedding ring is the most universal symbol used in wedding ceremonies. It was used by the ancient Romans as an engagement token and later as part of the ceremony. As an engagement token it symbolized the man's good intentions and acted as a sign that the woman was no longer available.

Since the ring is a continuous circle, it symbolizes permanency and eternity. The reason for it being gold is that it also symbolizes a monetary value and that it is made from what used to be considered the finest and most precious of all metals. It also symbolized the purity of the love in a marriage.

The wedding finger is difficult to raise without raising one of the fingers next to it, therefore offering protection to the ring finger. Since the left hand is generally used less than the right hand (remember it used to be that parents would even do everything possible to train their children to use their right hand), provides additional protection. It used to also be thought that a nerve or vein ran directly from the ring finger to the heart.

The honeymoon came from German custom of drinking wine made from honey for 30 days after the marriage ceremony (from one moon to the next), thereby: honey + moon.

Just some tidbits of info.

I was just married to my submissive. We went for white gold bands to match his sterling silver collar. (http://www.bondagecollars.com/sdcc.htm with the snake eye tamoper resistant screws.) I'll attach a photo of our rings. I felt that our engagement/wedding stuff needed to show a vanilla commitment, as his collar already shows the BDSM one. There is more to our lives than just BDSM, and I want us committed in all ways. You may want to consider that before you choose your rings. You can always have a brand (which is a serious undertaking as I'm sure you both know. Burns can be dangerous), tattoo or piercing to show more of a BDSM commitment than just your collar.

If the ring is very important to you, make sure he knows that. Don't just knuckle under because he seems to not want it. This is the type of thing that marriage long resentments are built out of, and you don't want to start the union with such. Congrats on being ready to take this step. It's a huge one!

That WAS the point of them. An unfaithful wife takes it off, isn't careful, she can't solve it, and her sailor husband knows she was cheating while he was at sea.

I think there are several histories behind the rings...the one I'm familiar with is the Turkish one. Either way, they can be difficult. I never remember how to do it between times. In fact, I haven't yet put it back together from the last time I took it off. I absolutely love these rings!

Wow! I learn something everyday. Puzzlerings. What a beautiful idea. If and when I ever do get married again I would hope that would be something W/we could look into. They are absolutely beautiful.

Oh and congratulations on the upcoming engagement!

You are so very lucky.

I hope you can work out how very important it is to you to have a ring.

Apologies for being late in posting this reply.

I highly recommend your speaking with Pandora and Pendragon from Florida. They've done a few commissioned pieces for the store I had managed and I'm certain that they'd come up with a beautiful design based upon both of your tastes and needs.

Their website is http://www.panpen.com

<i>waving to Pandora!</i>

Pandora and Pendragon does GORGEOUS work!

I also recommend http://www.goldenknots.com . This artisan crafted Master Archer's gold and silver Turk's Head wedding band. His work is spectacular. He also does colalrs..called chokers on his site.

We met him in person at Dragon Con here in Atlanta and had the opportunity to see some of his jewlery art before we bought our custom ring.

I had to take mine off when I was pregnant with my daughter.  And, couldn't get it back on later...  lol
