Misstoyou -> S&M session gone awry -- or homicide? (SF Chronicle headline) (7/13/2007 11:54:47 AM)

"Onetime Haight activist, anti-drug cruisader found dead.

Joe Konopka came to prominence in his Upper Haight neighborhood as a crime fighter...

On those Wednesdays that he once spent meeting with activists -- nights his wife, a San Mateo Union High School District administrator, attended school board meetings -- Konopka had turned to indulging in sadomasochistic bondage sessions, police said.

And this past Wednesday evening, police were summoned to his home in the 500 block of Ashbury Street after someone inside called 911 and fled. Inside, officers found Konopka dead, bound, with his face covered in plastic.

San Francisco police Lt. John Murphy said Thursday that investigators are handling the case as a homicide.

Konopka's wife, Ethel, did not want to discuss the circumstances surrounding her husband's death, saying police had revealed little to her.

She wanted him remembered as a man who "cared about the neighborhood," she said. "He was a good man..."

"Indulge"--that's cute.

Can we discuss ANYTHING in this country without turning to Christian morality?  It's fucking ridiculous.

This story reminds me of the guy who jumped off of Half Dome in Yosemite with a parachute, which unfortunately opened too late.

Breath play seems so simple, but is really like parachute jumping. Most public dungeons do not allow it.

"Ye pays yer money. Ye takes yer chances".

(for those whom this saying is news to.. it refers to gambeling but is used broadly in regard to when someone takes chances)

Hi

i think it is a shame that this man that then cared for his comunity, that did good will be hated and looked down on by many pepole becouse he had special sexual interests interests that was dangerous yes, but after all, why should his sex life or death matter to what good deeds he did. He was not careful, he took to big risks, and he died, it is a shame and i feel bad for the family.

However if it was homeside or anything other than an acsident. i hope they catch his killer.

i wish you well

Just this in:
Man arrested in S.F. sex-bondage slaying
Jaxon Van Derbeken, Chronicle Staff Writer
Thursday, July 19, 2007

(07-19) 13:53 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Police have arrested a San Francisco man in connection with the death of a neighborhood activist during what investigators concluded was a sadomasochistic bondage session that went awry, authorities said today.

Terry D. Frazier, 40, was arrested Wednesday in the July 11 death of Joe Konopka, 65. Police found Konopka's body at his home on the 500 block of Ashbury Street in the Upper Haight after someone called authorities from the address. He was bound and his face was covered with plastic.

Konopka once presided over monthly meetings of a now-defunct neighborhood watch group known as RAD, formerly Residents Against Druggies, whose members crusaded against street-level drug dealers.  "We knew when we started it we were putting our butts on the line," Konopka, who had lived in the Haight since the late 1970s, told The Chronicle in 1993. "But we're in danger of losing the neighborhood, and we refuse to leave. We refuse to give up the neighborhood."  Konopka also ran twice for city supervisor, then faded away from neighborhood activism.

In recent years, police said, Konopka engaged in sex and bondage sessions, always on Wednesday evenings while his wife, a school administrator, attended San Mateo Union High School District board meetings.

Investigators believe Konopka was killed during one such session. Officers arrested Frazier at Sixth and Market streets Wednesday afternoon without incident, police said.
Konopka came to the city in 1976 from the East Coast, his wife said, and recently retired from a career in the food business, which included working as a chef and managing restaurants and banquets.

I think we were, until you posted.

I don't know whats worse: Christians of self-righteous dominants who are so afraid of their lifestyle even remotely being called into question.

WTF?  Ohfergodzsakes... so even the mere presense of the word "indulge" and you think the San Francisco Chronicle is using "Christian" lingo as a part of some moralistic judgement?  Two words: Reality check!  The SF Chronicle is one of the most liberal papers in the country (there's a surprise) and so trust me they aren't engaging in some subtle moralistic judgement.  You sound hyper-sensitive in your hated as the neo-Nazi who can't hear someone refer to a "rising star in the industry" without screaming about "having blatant Jewish imagery" shoved down their throat.

So the next time I see an ad for chocolate cake asking me to "indulge" I suppose that I should think the company/advertiser is trying to communicate a subtle message of religious judgementalism against chocolate cake lovers, right?

Talk about ridiculous.  Whatever.
