i would see it as truth in advertising...
i know everyone is supposed to "sell" themselves, and pretend to be confident and self-assured and baggage-free... but for some, the window during which that facade can be maintained is so small that it's really not worth bothering with.

DrkJourney -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/13/2007 3:31:31 PM)

I get those that have negative niks that usually scream, I'm messed up, nothing I ever do is right, nobody likes me...etc

They usually contact me...I try to be nice and ignore the nik, but talking to them is one big pity party.  A few think it's great to classify themselves as "doormats" as well.

Already have one outside my door...that's the only doormat I'm interested in.

Sorry, I just don't have that kind of degree to be "fixing" anyone

Seriously?

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/13/2007 6:09:28 PM)

Very...

It is comical really but I gues there are people who are born to be offened by any and everything.

TheHeretic -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/13/2007 6:40:29 PM)

I suppose some would consider my nic to be a negative reference (especially anyone with "true" in theirs).  It's pretty accurate though, so I'll leave the judgements to others...

I've seen people who choose to use a negative descriptor as part of their screen name. Angry, sad, troubled, violent, pathetic, broken, etc. It seems an odd thing to want to have that be someone's first image of you, especially if you are here searching for a partner. Our words here are the first impression and I am wondering why anyone would want to go out of their way to make a negative first impression? Sure, there are some who may not be searching and use it as a means of keeping people away, but I have clicked on several of these profiles and found that they are indeed here to meet others.

So, does seeing such negativity in what a person chooses to call themselves influence whether you make contact or not?

For those that use such words in your name, what is your personal reason for doing so and does it matter to you if it might close some doors?

'Depends.

If someone has the name pathetic, I'd be struggling to see the wisdom in contacting them.

If the name was sad, I could live with that. Life's not always a bed of roses etc.

Anyway, I prefer genuine people who are upfront with their emotions than someone claiming they're always the life and soul. If I saw a profile called "SadJane" and another with "HappyJane", I would go for SadJane every time, without even thinking. There's enough bollocks in this world without inviting more on myself by contacting "HappyJane".

I am not sure of your experience, but in mine many of these negative names are from young people. I think at a certain age that seems like the cool thing to do.

Bingo!

Yeah, I call them indignation addicts.

Btw, I've always thought it was cool that you had that as part of your nick!

losttreasure -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/13/2007 8:46:49 PM)

I suppose my screenname could be considered negative.  To be honest, when I created it I don't recall being in a particularly good mood, though I didn't really consider it to be reflective of that.

While some might consider it to be a cry for a "knight in shining armor" to rescue me, it certainly wasn't meant to be pathetic.  I'm not now, nor have I ever been "lost" in that respect.  It was more like I was lost to the one who'd eventually find me.  Which he did.  [:D]

I do agree that negative names would influence me, although my idea of negative goes far beyond the examples you've given.

Arpig -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/13/2007 8:53:18 PM)

Nope, but then agaibn I don't really expect to meet anybody off CM, so it really doesn't matter.

tigerlilly34 -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/13/2007 10:43:12 PM)

maybe it is truly what is inside them that they dont like being manafested towards another person so as to make themselves feel better in some sick and perverted way. some people cannot just take things for face value they have to always distort it for their own sick satisfaction

wandersalone -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/15/2007 12:49:15 AM)

fast reply

I sometimes get emails from people suggesting that I cheer up as I won't be alone forever. Until I first started getting these messages it didn't dawn on me that there could be a 'sad and lonely' connotation to my nic. I originally added the 'alone' part to indicate that I was single and without UM's, damn now I am thinking that I sound kind of desperate! [:D]

Names that would make me pause …..

I can relate to your name, wandersalone.

History is replete with monks and other spiritual figures from various religions who would wander through life seeking wisdom and understanding.

I dont personally see wandering or being alone as negative things, they just are.

I was torn between choosing domiguy or LeaveU4deadUCunt.  Did I choose wisely?

Lothlauren -> RE: Using negative words in your screen name (7/15/2007 7:27:11 PM)

Domiguy was obviously the better pick... but anyone following your threads knows the other applies
