youareminesoon -> a perhaps impossible question to answer... (7/13/2007 10:17:37 PM)

but one I am interested in asking! so there :)

What is the interest, for those who have it, in things such as knives and needles?  I can understand collars... it is a power thing, I collar you and put a leash on it, you do what I say.  I understand watersports even... at least in some respects... it can function as a humiliation (among other things I know).  but what is the deal with knives, what is the turn on? or, rather, what is the fulfillment? I am just very curious because I am very interested in human psychology and motivation and as that scene is something that doesn't get me going I want to know why it gets others going.

mnottertail -> RE: a perhaps impossible question to answer... (7/13/2007 10:22:35 PM)

If you are immobile and I am gonna paste you in the fuckin head with one, why don't you tell me what ain't with it?

Curiously,
Ron

I'm a sadist.

Knives and needles can cut skin, draw blood, inflict pain.

Who wouldn't like that? ? ? ?

[sm=ofcourse.gif]  D'oh!

POWER TRIP

Knives can kill, maim, dissect, and inflict all sorts of damage & pain. Get someone who's at your mercy... and you have a knife to them... and are using it... it's artistic expression, fear enhancement (for the restrained person), a quick way to remove all clothing, and general all around power trip.

Besides, knives (well, mine anyway) look nice. Beautifully shaped and crafted. Glittering edges. Aesthetically pleasing.

But, that's just me. [:D]

It's probably for pretty much the same sorts of reasons you like spanking, canes and crops. It's all a matter of personal taste. I don't get how anyone in the world can like lima beans, but damn if some people don't just love the little buggers.

Yes, perhaps you are correct, but for some reason chalking it all up to 'taste' just isn't all that satisfying for me.  Maybe I am looking for too much of an explanation but 'taste' is sort of benign and, well, uninteresting... I like lima beans, you like green beans, or maybe not. who cares.  It is all about taste.  People... motivations, desires, I think are a bit more complex.  Particularly when it comes to how people see and deal with sex.

ChainedExistence -> RE: a perhaps impossible question to answer... (7/13/2007 11:06:41 PM)

First of all, there is an element of fear-Knives bring to mind strangers in dark alleys and criminals waiting behind the next corner. Needles might make you think of mad scientists and scary medical procedures. These things play into many people's deeply held fears. Fear play isn't all that hard to understand. Even if you do something as simple as blindfold a person, you are playing on their fears. The vanilla crowd even loves to be scared a little or there wouldn't be near the market for horror films and roller coasters. It kicks the adrenaline into high gear, and you feel wonderfully alert and alive.
Another element is sort of obvious- Pain. Knives and needles cut the skin, and they hurt. What sadist/masochist doesn't like the idea of that? And it's a different kind of pain than impact pain from a paddle for instance.
There's the aesthetic factor of why some people love them...Have you ever seen the intricate and beautiful designs people create with needles alone or combined  with ribbons, or feathers?  Also, many people carve designs into the skin with a knife to make a longer lasting mark than many toys might create.  People love tattoos and other kinds of markings they get from play with other things such as floggers and paddles. It's not such a stretch to think they'd like these kinds of markings, too.
One other draw to this might be that it has a primal quality to it. Letting someone draw blood is a powerful thing. You remember the whole idea of blood brothers from the time you were a kid, right? Well, magnify that a whole lot..the idea that you are sharing your lifeblood with another. It feels somewhat like you are putting your literal life into their hands, and handing yourself completely over at the most basic life or death level, even though it's more of a symbolic gesture.
I'm sure there are other reasons...but those come to mind for me.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: a perhaps impossible question to answer... (7/13/2007 11:10:08 PM)

For me it's pure sensation.  I'm not scared of knives, at least not with anyone I'd agree to play with, I don't do cutting or blood play casually, it's simply pure delightful sensations on my body.  I had a fabulous scene at LR recently where it felt like his knives were ice skates and my skin was an ice rink.  Fabulous.

Needles also tend to be pure endorphins- you get a huge reaction from a small impact.

But it's ok- you don't have to get everything, in fact you probably never will.  It's more important to understand some people do just like you get your kinks.

Lima beans contain cyanogen which is related to cyanide.

Is that a good enough reason? [:D]

Nope. *grins* Apple seeds contain arsenic - eat enough and you will die. Do you still eat apples & the occasional apple seed? And 'related to' isn't the same thing... tomatoes are related to deadly nightshade (belladonna), but a tomatoe won't kill you or make you high (unless you're allergic anyway [:)]).

Well, cyanogen can actually kill you .. but, not a good enough reason, I suppose, because knife play can kill you as well. Of course, with knife play at least you get to have some fun and bleed before you die. [8D]

Um, how about ... they taste icky to me and they smell funny? Is that a good enough reason? Lima beans are hazardous to my refined palate and I need to save those taste buds for chocolate!

Archer -> RE: a perhaps impossible question to answer... (7/14/2007 12:01:23 AM)

Needles penetrate, they enter the body, draw blood many times. Blood is life force, I draw a small measure of life force from your body is that not power?
Knives have the fear factor, fear is an aphrodisiac for many people. Fear is power, if I control something you fear I can control you.
If I take you into that which you fear and bring you safely out the other side trust is built.

A simple "NO" would have sufficed. [sm=rolleyes.gif]

They don't smell funny! Sheesh... you probably let them sit for too long in water. But since you find their taste somewhat lacking... I guess that's an ok reason. *sighs*

At least you like chocolate! LOL

tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant are all related to nightshade.  they will also make you absolutely miserable if you have arthritis, or several other auto-immune illnesses.  same with mushrooms.

kitten, who knows from experience.....
