Are you happy? Why, or why not?

Wonderful topic.
I am very happy.
Sure I have problems, issues and concerns.

But, MY happiness is not based on a lack of problems, issues and concerns.
We are all going to have problems, issues and concerns, that is called LIFE.

I am very happy, content and satisfied.
I try to live my life in a way that if I die tonight, they can put on my Tombstone..." She is in heaven now, she had a great life
and it is all good!"

I'm one of those sickeningly happy people. (Gosh and I'm a sadist. Imagine that!) Monday is my favorite day of the week. Seriously! I love Monday! I love my life. I love who I am. I love the direction my life is going and I love waking up every morning and seeing where the day is going to take me.

uh oh.... post from an annoyingly chipper person coming up!

I definitely feel that I am at a good place in my life, is this happiness, contentment or thankfullness? It probably is a combination of all three.  So yes, I am very happy and very aware of how great my life is.

If pressed, I would venture that being chipper may  be better than non-stop sorrow-mongering

I'm not a happy person by nature.  About the best one can say about me (for an extended period of time) is that I am content.  Course, one can't say that about me now.........

edited to add:  It's amazing how we get an idea in our minds of how a certain poster is.  For example, katy, I'd never figure you were shy.  You're so outgoing here.  btw...shy is also not something anyone could EVER say about me!

smiles.... I am going to do a little of the sharing stuff which I normally shy away from .... here goes....

I spent many many years wishing I was someone other than myself, wishing I was taller, thinner, prettier, whiter, smarter, cooler...all sorts of things. I experienced many many lows and at times would find myself drowning in waves of depression.

Through my own learning, through therapy, medication, the love of my family and friends, through the support of my workmates and also through me making a conscious decision to not live my life in this way any more I slowly improved, it was agonisingly slow at times.

7 years ago my brother died unexpectedly and this made me re-evaluate my life and work out my priorities and do you know what, my family, my work, my friends were the elements of my life that I needed to focus on in order for me to feel enriched.  They still are the core parts of my life and they bring me happiness and also peace to myself.  I live every day in part I think for my brother who isn't here. Now if a wonderful dominant were to trip over me in the street ...well then life would be bloody awesome!!!!

What a wonderful outlook on life!  I guess I wasn't very clear.  I don't think I'm a happy person by nature.  That's not to say that I am unhappy either.  I don't wish I was taller, thinner, younger, richer or anything like that.  I accept who I am and am at peace with myself.  I'm just not terribly cheery.

I wasnt always a happy person. And I still dont necessarily come off as one. However, ever since I survived an attempted murder (and we still dont know how I managed it) I realized that my life was there to be lived and enjoyed.  Its a waste of time to be angry, bitter and hold grudges because I am on a second chance as is. Third chance, if you consider the train I took to work every day for several years and mised for the first time in all those years was the one that was destroyed under the Towers on 9/11. Many things have reminded me that I should be happy to be here.
Thats why I go out of my way to make other people happy too. I volunteer when I can. I am always there for friends no matter what, and I go out of my way to do good things for people. All of it makes me happy.
And since I got Angel, I have been happier than any other time in my life.  There is something wonderful about loving someone unconditionally, and that feeling that no matter what or when, you know they are always going to be there.

I'm an all around contented, happy person.  I used to be a crabby, moody, angry cuss when I was younger.  I was 17 and I was in a bad mood from a bad day at work when my grandfather said to me, "why don't you just be happy, damn it!"  I just blew him off because I didn't understand that I could just choose to be happy.  It wasn't until long after he was gone that I finally understood what he meant.  Now I choose to be happy and contented.  Bad things happen to me, but I deal with it, put it in the past and then find something to be happy about.  There will always be some negativity in our lives.  Why focus on it?  I look at life like an orange.  Do I focus on the skin and how bitter it is and what a bummer it is that I need to peel it off to get at the good part?  Of course not.  I take off the skin, throw it away and then I enjoy the sweet part.  That is how I live my life.  That is why I am happy.

big yes.
I'm alive, I'm loved, I'm (relatively) healthy.  and misfortune has taught me how to be thankful for what I have.
I'm one of those pain in the neck optimist types.

I would distinguish being an optimist from a chipper-ite .

I do border on chipper!  esp on a day like today, the sky is blue, the sun is shining...

it would make an excellent t-shirt, don't ya think?  "Warning:  Borders on Chipper"

Yes, I am very happy.  I have a roof over my head, food in my tummy, a beautiful weekend, a Master and husband I adore wrapped into one, my health, and another day on this earth to enjoy with the ones I love.

Bad things happen, life gets hard sometimes, but when it comes down to it, I have many, many reasons to be happy in my life.

Because I have met a Master who follows a similar spiritual path as the one I do.

Actually Level...I really want to Thank you for this thread. It was a very rough weekend for me. Yesterday in particular. 12 years since someone died that I once loved very much. Normally I am a very happy person, but we all have those days that aren't so comfortable. This thread couldn't have come at a better time for me personally. It made me truly stop and think of all the things that I have in life to be happy for today. So rather than focus on the loss, I was able to think about all the good things that have occurred in the interim of those 12 years. Perhaps it was just a silly little thread, but for me...it was much more. I wanted you to know that it made a difference in my day. Thank you.

PS Your love of Kevin Costner still disturbs me a great deal.

Well, you just helped my day. I am genuinely glad that it made a difference for you, Jo

And if they have a Kevin Costner film festival, I'll pick you up, and when they show Waterworld, I'll even help you throw tomatoes at the screen.

What the hell? You have to show man love for Costner...He' made some of the best and worst movies of all time....For every "Dances" there is a "Postman"....You got "Tin Cup," "Bull Durham," "Upside of Anger" and "Field of Dreams"....And then you have "WaterWorld"....He is they guy a guy can relate to....Not perfect or even consistent.....Can I attend the Kevin Costner Film Festival?

Jo is going to have to sit somewhere within my vacinity....When "The Postman" is running I'm going to need around 15-18 blowjobs to get me through that junk of scat.

I wouldn't be caught dead at a "Kevin Costner film festival" Those words, in and of themselves, are an oxymoron and blasphemous.

You may not attend.

First, there would never be such an incomprehensible activity in existence in the universe. Second, one would be all it took. That is, if you were to even be deemed such a lucky lucky man.   Which I wouldn't bet on since San Diego was not on the Domipalooza Tour.

Edited because I have deep seated problems spelling Domipalooza
