I have been thinking of trying the Bondage.com offer of three free months if you submit a story that they decide to publish. I havent written any erotica in years, but I used to write quite a bit for a former sir of mine, and still have it all saved on my computer.

Alt..... is like most anything else, in that it is what you make of it. I made some wonderful friends there, and met a special woman, as well.

Alt and AFF are just one dick pic after another.
AFF was just people looking for quick sex.  Most knew nothing about bsm at all.

I've been on ALT since shortly after it started, back when you could do most things free.  I look at the price as entertainment value, its about the same as a movie once or twice a month.  I guess its worth that to me, although I go through stages where I get pissed off about some new limitation and don't renew for a while.  Basically if you don't pay you as a male can't do anything there, not even look at profiles.   Their philosophy is that if your search is unsuccessful you will have to keep paying them longer, so they don't do much to help it; rather they look for ways to get more money out of you.

ALT has many more active members in my area than Collarme does, and over the years I have had more luck meeting potential partners there, just due to the quantity.  Most don't seem to be serious though.  Lots are just playing around online, or are only looking for sex.

There are a lot of fake profiles there, as well as scammers and spammers, but you won't get much mail from them unless you write to them first.  I get lots of scam mail here on collarme by comparison.  Even though free male members there can't send emails, the women still get so badly bombarded that yours is likely to get lost in the blizzard.   Non-paying members are also limited in how many replies they can send per day.  Response rates are pretty low as a result, worse than here.

The profile questions are much more complete so if someone bothers to fill it out, you will learn more about them.  I've noticed that many of the people on collarme also have a profile on ALT and if they do it tends to provide much more information about them.  Here you don't find out much unless the member decides to write an essay.

The profiles, mail and every other form of communication such as blogs, group posts, forums, etc. is heavily censored to remove any mention of contact information or mention of the competition.  It can be damn annoying.

AFF is their companion site, Adultfriendfinder.  It's mostly a hook-up site for those looking for sex.

I was on alt for years until last year when I left for good.  I never used it for "dating" since I was already with someone.  I was invited by a local Dominant I knew well back in 2000, to join him in a chatroom there.  That chatroom was the reason I kept going back.  I met some really good lifestyle people over the years, made a couple of dear friends, and talked to a whole slew of people I'd never want to meet in person.

I "earned" profile viewing privileges when the management changed the rules for the nth time, from people viewing my profile there.  I never had to pay to view anyone's profile; however, for the first 3 days of the new rules, until my "view count" hit the minimum, I couldn't view them.  For participating in site activities, members could "earn" points to redeem for a month of paid status.  The owners of the site had it set up so that men and usually couples, basically need to pay to do much more than visit the chatrooms.  And frankly, over the years, those chatrooms disintegrated much more into trolling and abusive behavior than how they began.

Comparing the same amount of time I've been here, to an equal amount of time on alt, with basically the same "I'm not available" profile, I've had fewer "be my slave, We wan f**k yall...blahblahblah" emails here...however, I have no picture on my profile on CM's "other side" like I did there.  That could be the difference.  I've had slightly fewer emailers here admit to being attached when I pointedly asked...and the undertones in the emails are generally less sexually explicit here than on alt.

I like this site better overall, even though I've only ventured into a chatroom once on CM...the forums here very interesting, though I've had to put a few posters into "block" mode so I just don't have to read their posts at all anymore, rather than keep wanting to just type an "Oh Puhleassssssse."

Alt's programmers kept messing with the site functions over the last few years. You could not find customer service's phone number unless you were a paying member; instead, free members were urged to send email which only got an automated nonsensical reply...but I got, and still have, their number.  The programmers did not work on weekends, so any changes they made on Friday afternoons to the site that caused problems, people were stuck with until Monday at the earliest.  I had to call customer service a few times on Saturdays and got connected to India, I believe.  The young man was very nice and helpful once he saw my profile, even though it took several hours and a couple of callbacks to fix the problems.

Alt seems to advertise everywhere on the net...as a place to find kinky sex.  AFF ads are to find sex partners.  I've not paid attention enough to see if CM has different types of advertising.  That could be the main reason alt is more sex-oriented.

Upon reflection, one of the things I really like about CM is the fact that there are many people here who are in relationships (I mean the above-board kind!).  This isn't just a "dating" site, but a place where you can exchange information, and I love that.  ALT was very isolated.  I only ever talked to submissive men.  Here, on the boards, I interact with women, men, tops, bottoms, etc.  It can feel more like community.

I like that there are no cock pictures, that we can message whomever we want, that we can hand out our contact info at whatever time we feel appropriate.  I also like that it's not lurid and dark.  It makes it seem less like something hidden.  All the black at ALT seems artificial and put on.

CM, I love you!  (blowing a kiss)

I'll add my voice to the list of people who think alt.com sucks and wouldn't pay for it.

Alt.com seems to be a popular site that claims to be the “world’s largest BDSM & alternative lifestyle personals”.  Their fees also seem to be the world’s largest as well.  Has anyone here tried Alt.com?  If so, please give me your opinion on the site.  Is it worth the money?  Are there a lot of genuine people on that site or is it just another home for people who try to separate others from their money.

i have a profile on alt and am only a standard member. i can view full profiles and send emails.  There are many i would never want to get aquainted with there but there are some genuine sounding people come through every so often.  i guess if you are on a "mad search" it's going to be a disappointing place - but if you take it for what it is - with all its flaws and wankers and wannabes, you'll find the few flowers hiding in the weeds :-)

I think ALT is too broad in their scope. Here, it's about BDSM and closely related things. At AFF, is about swingers and sex. At ALT, you get both of those plus more. It can be overwhelming if you are looking for one specific thing.

Adult FriendFinder.  The same company that operates Alt also operates FriendFinder, Adult FriendFinder, and a bunch of others.

In my opinion, Athought I use alt to communicate on their group boards the site is of little use to me... Too many people on alt are there because its a part of the AFF network... The ratio of real lifestyle people on there compaired to the ammount of people on there trying to get their dicks wet, pussys filled, ect far outnumbers the members who are real practitioners of the lifestyle. As a couple people have said, the chats and groups are good for messaging, but... unless your kink is swinging, having an affare with a married man/woman/ect your gonna be greatly disapointed.

I have gone to many parties held by alt groups in my local community, and the people that attended were more sexualy driven than driven to express their love for the lifestyle and the like. And when some have had "play" events, if it wasn't for the members of the social groups outside alt... not a damn person would have known a flogger from a single tail.

thats my 14 cents (isn't inflation a bitch)

Mike

Part of the reason why it seems that there are many more "swingers" and non-lifestylers on the ALT website is because they take information and cross-post it from their other websites.  I actually had an account an AFF for a while after my divorce, I found all of my information (profile name and all) posted on the ALT website.  While this may not be the case now, there have been several cases where "that company" was accused of generating profiles.

Personally, I'll stick to B.com and CM because of the quality of people I find at both places.

My experiences with Alt.com have been that I get a lot more penis pics with messages along the lines of "lookin for fun?"

That was my experience as well and why I'm no longer there.

I put up a profile on ALT, but it's a waste of time for me. I live on the east end of L.I. and there are only a handful of sub women there..........with mebbe 200 bi-males all looking to ass rape each other....LOL..... the 'company' is -Various Inc.- and they recently bought Bcom as well.....a pity.....the boards are great here, but there have been horrible tech problems since Various took over this past spring. For the time being, freeloaders can read and post to the fora and accept mail from paying members......you can also contact members by mailing in form the outside( shhhhhh)
Hundreds of IRC channels to surf for chat and A/V chat too.
