Trampler -> Unusual Floggers (7/14/2007 5:29:47 PM)

One of my favorite websites is www.frugaldomme.com  got some neat toys for good prices on there.  My question to you all is, what other materials can floggers be made from?was thinking some kind of ribbon or string, with beads at the end, but then I thought that could only be for show, because it wouldn't hold up after a while. I was also thinking lanyards,(not sure if that is correct spelling.) ethier loose or braided. Also what about the handle? like what could I use as a handle and how would I attach it? Thanks in advance! :)

Ms.Trampler, there are a multitude of materials out there. I've seen everything from nylon rope of 5mm or less diameter with tool dip on the knots, to full out latigo leather with braided handles...  My personal favourites are made from a nylon webbing called "Mule Tape" that is used for pulling telecom cable. They're mop-style floggers, screwed into wooden handles and weighted for florentine style flogging. Really it's all about the effect you want to get out of them, as to what you can make them with..

effect: varied, some ethier soft sensation play/or for build up, and some for thud or sting, and some just for the idea....:) Thank you!

Ive made one out of 550 cord...pretty evil but i liked it. frayed out cotton rope makes for a soft thuddy flogger.

One thing that I always look for in floggers is a little bit of elasticity.  No elasticity and you have a more limited sensation.  Too much elasticity and you lose control.

Essentially, Ms.Trampler, if you do a websearch on making floggers, you'll find all kinda of things. One in particular that stands out, now that you mention Frugaldomme is called a Catholic Discipoline, and was actually intended for self-flagellation, but I recalled that it looked like a really good start for another flogger. it involved 72" bootlaces, tied to a metal D ring, 3" or so, in a larkshead knot, and then pulled way tight... I could see adding a few more laces, and using 2 of them, wrapped to make a handle.

One of the coolest floggers I have ever seen was a couple years back at a kink store :  It was a traditional braided handle but the fall was made of rubber snakes.   At the time it was one of those things that if I bought it, I wasn't going to be paying the rent on time LOL  Still, i wish to this day I'd gotten it - I have never seen anything like it since.

Trampler -> RE: Unusual Floggers (7/14/2007 9:18:43 PM)

now that! is worth doing just for the entertainment value!

Mwahahahahahaha!   Precisely.

Elorin -> RE: Unusual Floggers (7/15/2007 8:22:29 AM)

I've made floggers out of twine, rope, the insides of that imitation climbing rope they sell for $10 at Home Depot, ball chain, denim, shoelaces, chamois...

I've never made one out of knotted material just because most of my bottoms aren't that heavy of players. beaded floggers I worry more about not being able to take full strokes.

Though, honestly, I don't like floggers too horrible much. Too much work for not enough result for me.

Handles I've used mostly dowels, although I have braided materials into handles, used toilet plunger handles cut short, just anything that strikes my fancy as comfortable to my hand.

I've jut recently made a couple nice ones out of chain . . . dowels for the handles, carved, sanded and laquered. One's a flat nickel chain that is very stingy, but light, so it doesn't bruise too deeply, and the other is 1/4" gate chain with 18" falls. That one definitely bruises, and its marks are very very pretty. Once you get into making the handles, finding stuff to put on them is easy - just keep your eyes peeled, and when something strikes your fancy, try it. I've tried a few duds that failed for various reasons (too light, to weak, too heavy...), but it's all ben fun so far. Mentally fun to play with different modes of attachment, and physically fun cause . . . well . . . you know :)

have fun,

Best flogger handles for homemade floggers are rubber bicycle grips. No drilling, screwing, cutting, sawing, etc. Most of them have holes at the end where I run the falls through a split ring or D ring and feed the falls through the hole and hang out the end. You can then use a funnel and fill the inside with sand or shot and epoxy the ends to seal if you need added weight for balance.

you know, I had thought about bicycle handles, you can get them in different colors too! lol

Phin -> RE: Unusual Floggers (7/17/2007 6:05:23 PM)

saw a cat o' nine made with stranded steel wire. The owner was sadistic to the point I would not play with him. The one time I saw it used the bottom was a HEAVY masochist, and she said never again...

OrrisKitten -> RE: Unusual Floggers (7/19/2007 8:01:59 AM)

I've been given instructions on how to make a flogger out of lanyard. I've also been given a gift of one fully finished. The handle is braided and then the ends make up the falls. It looks fairly easy to make, though I have not tried yet. As soon as I can, I will get the instructions I was given translated into English. I've also seen it with the falls being braided and they leave some nice marks. I tend to like having the handle used on me, leaves nice bruises and my dom and I enjoy how versitile it can be for sensation play and whipping both. And lanyard usually comes in any color, thus making it easily designed to your liking.

Target stores used to carry them in bright pink, and a shape which can only be described as 'almost anatomically correct' [sm=lol.gif]

floggers can be made from anything your mind can dream up. i made a matching pair of floritine floggers from a pair of leather pants i got on clearance from wallyworld=lol  i also made a pair of seal skin floggers for a xmas gift to my pet along with some foxtail, mink.

MsBearlee -> RE: Unusual Floggers (7/20/2007 7:32:14 PM)

Well, of course there is always the handfull of several vines of stinging nettles.

But, seriously... I have one made of some sort of floor matting.  It is somewhat stiff, as floggers go...but a wonderful follow up to the big, moppy, elkskin I have....long as I remember not to swing too enthuastically.  That thing bites!

OH, and a couple friends are making (for sale) various exotic wood-handled, leather floggers and one gave me one they call a 'Joy Wand'.  It's like one of Harry's majic wands...(tooled wood) with three, long, black latigo laces coming out the top.  Nobody doesn't like the Joy Wand!!!

Would you have a picture of that, Ms Bearlee? I would love to see it. :)

LadyHeart -> RE: Unusual Floggers (7/21/2007 2:16:07 AM)

We used a big plastic fishing lure as a flogger - you should have seen Master trying it out in the shop! It was shaped like a squid with big long tentacles and was very nasty. (I managed to pursuade Master to take the hook out of it, hehehe)

We also made one out of "spline" which is the plastic tubing that holds the wire mesh into fly wire screens.

We have another one made of rubber bicycle tyre inners, cut into strips. If you're ever flogging someone wearing latex, a wet rubber flogger is the only thing you can use that won't damage their outfit.

And for a really fun one - licorice straps - when you're done you can eat them - and make the sub crawl round on the floor licking up the bits that break off...

:))
