ORIGINAL: nikkicd10 In your mind (a Mistress) what is a fair exchange rate for bartering professional work for service time? I have been asked by many and have offered my services to many in exchange for each others skills. But there is never an easy middle ground. I am a Master Carpenter, with over 20 years in building furniture and homes. When I offer my services to Mistresses they feel my skills as worthless, though they do need them I should offer them in thier honor. Well, sorry, we all need to make a living or a fair rate of echange. For example, lets take a St. Andrews Cross, very basic in design, yet can be custom made to many desires. A basic design sells for around $300 with nothing but wood from a large box store and simple joinery techiques. Nothing special but it does the job. Mine sells for around $600, made from exotic wood of furniture grade, fixtures are hand crafted, and the finish far exceeds anything you can get from local hardware store. Now what is the value? I have my cost for materails, we are talking about and exchange of time. What is fair? In the end, it doesn't matter what we think is fair. It's what YOU think is fair. If you're not getting a good barter, it will not be a fulfilling exchange for you, so why do it? Master Fire
