Sounds like lumping the WTO protesters and perhaps the ELF in under the heading of 'peace activists', which is probably generating some confusion.

They are all, more or less, cut from the same cloth. An unwavering belief in their own moral and intellectual superiority which (in their minds) gives them the right to demand that their vision of utopia be imposed arbitrarily upon the benighted masses.

Well said.  Bravo!

Yeah, that pretty much describes those Quakers to a 'T', molotov cocktails and all.

The truly dangerous people are those who engage in violence in the name of a cause. Since they’re doing it for the "greater good" they can justify greater and greater acts of violence (which is what usually happens since reality refuses to conform itself to their vision of how society should be). More harm has been inflicted upon people in the name of ideology than any other force in human history.

Exactly.

Consider the national guardsmen who killed 4 college students in Ohio.

The 5 longshoremen shot by policemen at the behest of the west coast shipping companies on Bloody Thursday in the 1930s.

I could go on.

Violence in the Service of Ideology is the enemy, whether it wears a badge or is a peace activist.

It is. It cuts both ways. The fact that people don't see that, the fact that they remain convinced that their side is good and can do no wrong and the other side is bad and can do no right – and that this justifies violence (amongst other forms of tyranny) – is what irks the living shit out of me.

BING – FUCKING – O! (if that sounds snide, it wasn't meant to be, but that was my first reaction upon reading your post).

Finally! Somebody who gets it!

Well, almost. I would amend it to say that ideology (a system of belief that closes itself off from outside feedback) itself is the enemy. The most dangerous people in the world are those who believe they have a monopoly on the truth.

Mark2b:
It would appear that you are talking about yourself.  Your ideology is the correct one and no one who has a different point of view is worth listening to.  You appear to be saying that you are right and everyone who disagrees with you is wrong and "just doesn't get it"

Violent Peace Activists... It makes me laugh every single time I hear the concept!

TheHeretic -> RE: Another story that didn't fit the agenda (7/24/2007 7:05:59 PM)

Here are a few "regrettable" pictures to scroll through.  She doesn't seem to be scolding THEM much.  Maybe "peace activists" don't mind so much when you kill Americans?

I didn't see any Peace Activists behaving Violently.

Nice! And she helped end the war before your boat got shot out of the water!

You should be thanking her.

Anyway, Chappaquiddick,Jane Fonda,.....

Don`t you have any grips from this century?

farglebargle -> RE: Another story that didn't fit the agenda (7/24/2007 7:26:21 PM)

In popeye's defense ( not that he needs the assist... ) But most of *my* issues stem from before 1865!

TheHeretic -> RE: Another story that didn't fit the agenda (7/24/2007 7:29:12 PM)

Chappaquidick???  Did I miss a discussion of whether it was safer to hunt with Cheney than let Ted Kennedy drive?

farglebargle -> RE: Another story that didn't fit the agenda (7/24/2007 7:30:04 PM)

SHE didn't APOLOGIZE after she drowned.

Cheney is one evil motherfucker if he can make the guy HE SHOT IN THE FACE apologize!

RONFL

I think it`s safer to hunt with dick.lol But not by much!

Interesting though, the parallels. Both involved alcohol, neither were properly investigated and w/ almost no police scrutiny, and there high status allowed them to escape any real consequences.Unlike you and I,rich powerful, connected people, black or white, get away with murder, figuratively and literally(OJ Simpson).

domiguy -> RE: Another story that didn't fit the agenda (7/24/2007 7:38:30 PM)

Damn you leave the thread about some cute, right wing, Filipino nut case and I come back to some pics of an old woman who couldn't get her cunt wet going down a water park slide

It`s like comparing Hitler and Mussolini, both evil motherfuckers, but one was a bit more dangerous.

Some  differences though, one is a Senator, and one is our co-president,arguably our actual president,w/ bush as a figure head.
One took place decades ago,one last year, and he`s still is in control of the white house.
In one case, the victim`s family asks for answers,in the other, the victim apologizes to the perp.Stunning if you think about that.Cheney is one dark assed dude,to pull that off.Scary......

I`m remembering now,how the white house was joking, and late nights shows did their shticks, lol until the victim had a heart attack, because a pellet had penetrated his heart.lol Then the white house wiped that stupid grin off it`s face.

I think you're missing the point here. It's not about Teddy being a drunken moron.

It's about Dick being One Bad Motherfucker.

Yet she was clearly endorsing violence.  The leaders rarely get their hands dirty.
