Can anyone point the way to where to find needed supplies to build a cell (about the size of a small room), or give tips on how to build it ourselves? Ones I have seen for sale are tiny, I'm talking about one big enough to have a bed in.

You could have some roughtiron fence pannels made to the size you want.  Request that they be able to attach together at teh corners and have a gate in one section.  Tell them its a dog run.

The other idea is a frame of 2x4's and 1/2" steel pipe or 3/4" rebar.  Make a solid 2x4 bottom plate and drill holes on the next 2x4 to hold the bars.  Do the same on the top and also make a door fame the same way.

The Eagle Co. makes a Portable Jail. That might work for you.
Play safe.

to get by on the cheap ... just buy the metal 2x4s from home depot or lowes ... and frame them closer together. use a tall chain link fence gate for the door.

For suggestions might vary alot since you didn't mention height. But if it was for let's say a large basement and you wanted from floor to ceiling, you could get some 2x4's and some 3/4 black iron pipe. For a typical wall, take 2 of the 2x4s lay them on each other. Drill a 1 inch hole straight through both pieces about 4 inches apart. Cut each section of pipe to the height of the ceiling. Stand the pipe in the holes. nail the bottom 2x4 to the floor and slide the other up to the ceiling and nail it.
for a shorter cages, you could use 4x4's but don't drill all the way through, and just screw the corners together after placing the pipes in the holes.
Or you could, if you had a pipe threader, make it all from off the shelf black iron pipe and fittings.
I made a cage out of copper using just copper tube and standard fittings.
if i am way off base on what you are seeking, sorry.

i may know someone who does cages on larger scales like 7' tall by 5' wide in the shape of a pyramid along with ball cages. they are not cheap though

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think, with budget in mind, it will have to be either a do it yourself kind of project, or maybe a modified dog run. Just want to make sure it's sturdy. It's no fun if you know you could just bend or snap something & be free.

PainCompliant, love that one. I wish I had the budget for it!

One of my favorite playspaces has a great horizontal cage.

Plywood and pipe, not hard.  The trick isn't to build one, the trick is to make a good looking one.

instynctive -> RE: Building cages/cells (7/23/2007 3:41:20 AM)

An alternative to black iron or copper pipe would be to look at metal conduit... with sime elbow grease you can sand the printing off it, which will rough it up so you can spray paint the mtal.. or leave "as is".

ohioslave4u -> RE: Building cages/cells (7/23/2007 10:45:01 AM)

if you have a farm supply center close they have cattle panels which you can form real easly,or they have a nice size dog pens, around here you can get a 8 x10 for around 400, thats not bad, or try a dog shock collor with a lock, just put the wire around any size space, beleive me, a little bell type thing will go off about 2 ft before the wire, i have been zapped by them myself and i wouldn,t cross it if it was on me

luckycharmpoppet -> RE: Building cages/cells (7/24/2007 9:10:21 PM)

Daddy bought my cage at PetCo. It was $119 and I can sleep in it. It's a 54" one, too!

bpben -> RE: Building cages/cells (7/28/2007 3:26:07 PM)

I am beginning to build bondage gear of high quality in my structural aircraft shop.  We can build and ship to you a prefabricated cell wall, with locks, with a stock built in, etc.  We are also building a nice cage.

By sending me an email I will send you some pictures; and you can send my some ideas for your own project.  We will then quote the project.

BEN
