I was on a long East Coast flight back to the West Coast yesterday. A woman across from me sitting in 4C (having purchased it in London on her way to the US) handed the (read, just purchased) brand new book to a woman in 3D (who'd been eyeing it, asking numerable questions), and she polished off 400 pages before we landed and exclaimed "this is the best Potter book I've read to date!"

I was reading a fascinating book (not Potter derivative) and I covered possibly 125 pages....

And I'm thinking..."do I need to buy this book?"

(I'm thinking not, but....I'm told it's a rather good book).

I read and enjoyed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but I'm not sure it's my favorite it the series.

You didn't say, Griswold, whether you'd read any of the previous Potter books. Each builds on previous volumes, so you're probably best taking them in order. The first is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer' s Stone.

Nope...never read one of 'em...heard they're incredible...fantasy/fiction has never been my gig, my preference is business, biographies, etc. Can't get into that shit for the life of me, but I've heard it's beyond excellent. I'm on a plane at least 5 times a month, 6 + hours at a whack...read everything...struggle to find good reading material...just can't do fiction.

Can't deny anything to a woman who divorced 11 years ago, was broke, wrote this cute little book, became a sensation...and 11 years later the chic's a billionaire. Gotta hand it to her, no question.

I just so happened to be on a long West Coast flight back to the East Coast yesterday and I saw that HP book all over the place.

Maybe it's just me... but I am so over HP,

been over it since the 3rd one...

Fantasy has never done much for me either, but Harry Potter totally hooked me. Part of it, I think, is that Rowling has a strong satirical streak. There's a Ministry of Magic, for instance, and it's rife with bureaucratic infighting.
