Inspired by the post today about the virtual missing virtual Dom----it makes Me wonder and well a tad hmm concerned-----so here goes, this may get moved but lets see----

I see so many "online relationships", professed reality in the whole online lifestyle---I have often defended those because I have always said that people need a sense of community--however, I do roll My eyes on occasion---ok I don't get the whole online webcam domination thimg, I like real flesh in My hands---however, I DO have online relationships--I guess---people I have met here and there that have developed into cyber and phone friendships----not domination, just like friends, we DO chat on the phone often---well for that matter when My UM wants something from downstairs, she IM's Me so I guess we have one of sorts too----lol---

The point is the whole virtual thing----are the feelings of those involved "virtually" any different (those that are genuine) if they BELIEVE?  I see all these virtual gamers---they believe that are against real opponents and now I hear about this thing called Second Life that allows you to create an online village, My company wants to use it for ww meetings!---ok so where do we draw the line? How do we say one person's virtual reality--isn't reality? as defined by...?  How do we know that those with online D/s relationships do NOT have the same feelings, the same rushes, the same devotion people who have real social contact do?? Because they BELIEVE??

Thoughts?

edited for one too many l's---have to get those nails cut.

Relationships are whatever people make of them.  I've seen plenty of real time relationships that were shams.  I've seen a few online relationships that seemed to be genuine (by their standards, not mine).

I do believe that the people who are involved in "virtual" life/ scenarios feel with every bit of sincerity,  and as deeply, as a person in a face to face non virtual relationship.  However, that being said, my opinions on the Real vs Virtual world would definitely exclude me from having  anything other than friendly discourse online.

I have online relationships which are friends only. I did meet my sub online but I did not consider it a relationship until we had actually met face-to-face and discovered that what we felt was real to us both. Yes I agree online relationships can be sincere, however to me love relationships  seem pretty empty if you never plan to meet or have anything to do with each other IRL. I  just do not see the advantage of putting that much time into something that is not going to turn into something real.

As for searching for someone as that other poster did in the other thread, it made no sense to me whatsoever, hence my bit of humor. If your so close as to call yourself a family wouldn't a telephone be a faster means of tracking someone down as opposed to putting up a desperate message on a website? At least that is my way of thinking.

Reality is subjective.

this slave has never felt comfortable dictating what "reality" is for someone else...or "slave", "truth", "beauty", "art", ad infinitum.  especially someone else's feelings.

another's inner experiences are not available to this slave for firsthand interpretation.  just because they may have experienced _______________ and so has this one, doesn't mean we are going to experience it as anywhere near absolutely identical with regards to our feelings...it's a judgement call this slave is neither expected to nor self-appointed omnipotent to make.

Sort of, on a tangent, do you recall demolition man, where the future world, exchanging of bodily fluids was prohibited and sex was done virtually through technology designed to stimulate, and simulate the mind into believing it was being touched? How far away are we from being able to produce similar effects with chemical enhancements, or careful mental discipline and psychological control?

Technology has changed the way people interact by bits and inches, eventually virtual reality will contest certain aspects of reality. We already see kids who get sucked into online games, and for them it's easy to associate that as part of their reality, because they grew up with it. What seems 'unreal' to most of us now, may become a common place thing in the future, it might seem foriegn, or freakish, but then again... there's something to be said for what an active sadist looks like to a tame vanilla person who can't imagine why 'hurting someone' could ever be enjoyable.

If they find a way to gain the same rushes or psychological stimulations through technological means instead of direct contact, does it somehow make them pretenders, or less substantial? They can achieve visual and audio stimulation through a PC from someone, or some-thing-, and between hands and toys produce their own physical stimulations. Sure it's lacking a second body, but so would a solo exhibitionist act, and that gets some people going too right? I think it's all in the head.

I don't know if it's on the market yet but a sex toy is being designed that is basically a bodysuit. You put it on, plug a cord into the computer and some 3,000 miles away installs a program on their computer. You both log onto the internet and they can stimulate you by running their mouse over a picture of the human body.

We can make things be more or less than what they are, simply by given energy to it or not. Whatever you think about a great deal is something that you are giving energy to, be that positive or negative. So, if you spend a great deal of time thinking and interacting with someone online, it can be very real. That's why people are always so hurt when they find out their online partner is "cheating" by talking to others, etc. Beliefs (concepts that we give energy to) can be the pivot point for many things. For example, some people truly believe in ghosts. Some people do not. For each, it's truth because that's what they believe.

There are butt plugs and dildos that work like that.

OMG .. just when I think I have heard of everything but what fun that would be if the one in the suit was just in the next room or in a crowd <EG>
