Level -> More Muslims rejecting violence (7/24/2007 4:13:31 PM)

WASHINGTON - Muslims around the world increasingly reject suicide bombings and other violence against civilians in defense of Islam, according to a new international poll dealing with how the world’s population judges their lives, countries and national institutions.

A wide ranging survey of international attitudes in 47 countries by the Pew Research Center also reported that in many of the countries where support for suicide attacks has declined, there has also has been decreasing support for al-Qaida leader Osama bin-Laden.

It is just a matter of time and education....Maybe those might be the areas our gov't should be concentrating on.

Level,
Glad you found and posted this. I saw it too but didn't want to exceed my thread starting quota for the day.

It is a GREAT story, and offers GREAT hope.

It provides a perspective that perhaps the people of Islam are as tired of the hypocrisy and agenda of their non-representative political leaders as we are. By the very fact that such a poll took place indicates that information is getting through even in areas of the world controlled by the most repressive regimes.

Thankfully before he invented global warming, and after inspiring 'Love Story', Al Gore invented the internet.

Time gives up no secrets, DG, but education, that is bound to help, at least to a degree. But let's remember, a number of the most violent terrorists are educated.

A decent quality of life seems to be another good foil to extremism.

Hey Merc,

It is a sign of better things, I agree. Surely, the human race has enough goodness, or lack of badness, that the tide has to turn for the better, some freakin' day lol.

Thanks Al! [:D]

Cool, but the great majority of Muslims throughout the world never embraced political violence in the first place. That non-violent people reject suicide bombings as perpetrated by a tiny minority isn't really that surprising.

Perhaps not a majority, but the minority that did is shrinking.

It is also possible that the failure of extremism to do anything but prolong the misery and cause people to live in fear might cause them to reject it as a positive life choice.

Absolutely, Sinergy. Even though the Palestinian territories had the highest support of violence, I also read (and posted?) an article that more of their people are saying "enough"; they just want a decent life. Things are coming to a head there, perhaps.

You guys must have missed the Memo, this story is Bullshit.  Bushitler is creating terrorists exponentially accross the muslim world by his criminal war in Iraq, remember.  That is required to be repeated over and over.  If the PEW poll is showing different it must have been compromised by the facists....right?

OBL and Islamic Extremesm was growing before Bush got in, now it is begining to go down.  You better fix this before the election.....People might get the idea the Bush Strategery was right and effective....

lucky, I would never put all the blame on President Bush, nor give him and  his strategy all the credit, for anything.

Level, and you are pretty level headed, I admire that in you.  Yet I stand by what I said.  I think it is great news.  And that it is contradictory to the "official reality" of the left.  Bushes policies are growing extremists exponentially, I have heard that thousands of times.
