playfulotter -> men who put their whole name as their handle... (7/26/2007 4:02:01 PM)

i don't know if this has been covered before but in my seven years of exploring online..i always wonder about men who put their full name as their handle or profile name....the saavy ones amongst us are going to explore online to find out who they are or try at least..which i love doing (as i did that at my last job for other reasons) but of course it could be a bogus name but sometimes not i have found...why do men do it and not women?  i really truly have not seen a woman put her full name as a profile name....just looking for viewpoints! is it ego or what?  i see it as a red flag when a man does it myself...i wonder how others feel...thanks!

I can't say why men do, but I think women don't out of fear for our own lives.  You'd have to be out of your mind to use your whole real name as a public ID in any site.

i just wonder what the psyche behind it all is...as women seem to be more the exhibitionist types online but regard that part of our life as sacred in a way...

I don't see this as sacred, but it would really bother me for someone from work or family to find me online in that way and then be talking about me behind my back, reading my journal, etc.  This is despite the fact that my family know about my involvement. I still don't care for them to be following all my details.  It's nothing more than that.

It's not so much "sacred" as just protecting onesself.  It's too easy to Google up an address and phone number and possibly other private information, not to mention identity theft.  Too many crazies out there in the world.
