Contact cement is not intended as a permanent fix to a problem. With leather that is. When dealing with leather you have surface bound, and deep bonding with the glue. Off the shelf glues are thick and dont deep bond. You have to thin them out to get them to soak into the leather. And you also must allow time for them to "dry". About 10 to 30 mins prior to placing the objects together. I use contact cement on a regular basis and highly recomend you dont use it if you can avoid it. Its toxic, flamable and will give you a wicked hangover. http://griffinleatherandmetal.com/
