MasterMike04103 -> Cigar Smoking, Fetish or Habbit (7/30/2007 11:50:38 PM)

I was reminded of a conversation a lifestyle friend and I had about a year ago... at the time I was a smoker, I smoked my camel wides every day like a true hero, and my friend enjoyed cigars but said he only smoked them because it was a fetish...

Now I have thought of that talk now and again for the last year and one thing comes to my mind... If a fetish is something that one needs to acheive sexual arousal, then how does one find smoking a cigar erotic enough to get aroused.... and furthermore, how does one find the need for smoking one TO get aroused... Maybe you can help me with this one, cuz I can't wrap my head around it...

Mike

How does one get aroused from being cut, wearing a diaper or pretending to be a child?

There isn't a lot of logic behind this sort of stuff. [:)]

Smoking a long cigarette in a beautiful antique holder,  savoring every puff, french inhale and the idea of a smoking siren is a huge turn on for me, it makes me feel so femme fatale.  I have smoked cigars in sessions for men who had a huge smoking fetish, it's all about the visual-the contrast of a very feminine women holding a masculine item.

He dips His lid;

A small cigar or my usual cigarette, laid back, legs spread with my Precious teasing to working my lap under my instruction is bliss...  with a glass of wine by my side for further enjoyment.   It's bliss, it's a visual turn-on for me.   Is it one of my fetishes?
Hell Yes!!!!!

And I can't stand smoke of any sort and find it fairly disgusting, but someone distinguished leisurely enjoying a nice cigar, totally a turn on for me.  Go figure.

Personally, I quit smoking about 3 months ago after 35 years or so, and I hate being around smokers

When I used to smoke both cigarettes and cigars (only cigars now), I found them to be two entirely different experiences.  Cigarettes were just a way of satisfying my addiction to nicotene and the whole hand-mouth habits many smokers get.  Smoking a cigar satisfied none of these and there were many times I'd spend an hour and a half smoking a cigar and afterwards I was dying for a cigarette.  I wouldn't say that enjoying a good cigar is a fetish for me since it doesn't turn me on.  And most of the cigar smokers I know would probably call it an indulgence and non-sexual.  However, I have included cigar smoking into play and that was a huge turn on.

It sounds to me as though your friend was trying to compare and contrast the habit of smoking to the luxury of smoking a cigar.  If your friend smokes cigars and gets off on them sexually, it's a fetish.  If not sexually, but smokes them for emotional enjoyment, they've just misused the word fetish.

Recall the proper definition of fetish is an inanimate object that one focuses on and can attain sexual arousal from.  Cigar smoking can BE fetishized, but I don't think that's requisite to smoking and enjoying them.  As a fetish?  It's the connection that's raised in the indiviual's head -- it's a phallic shape, and well, think of the Clinton scandal.  Those are two simple things that could be focused upon and turned into something sexual in the mind.

As for me personally, I'm a cigar smoker and I enjoy bringing cigars into my scenes.  I find cigars to be a luxury item for their cost, the frequency I smoke them and the paraphernalia required to properly enjoy one, whereas cigarettes are hands down, viewed by me as a habit.

Interesting. I think he was kidding. I love my cigars (have one almost daily lately) and it is a very relaxing and fun experience. I love to watch the smoke rise, curl, and drift away. I especially enjoy smoking out in the woods and seeing drifts of smoke appear and disappear as it floats in and out of sunlight.

Fetish? Nah. Worth doing? Yah! A cigar takes from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours to smoke, and is a leisurely experience. Nicotine is diminished in cigars because they are fermented, then aged. In addition to reducing the nicotine, it gets rid of many other chemicals like Ammonia that occur naturally in tobacco. The fact that the smoke is not inhaled saves one from the ravages of lung disease, though there remains risk in the mouth.

I enjoyed a Robusto La Flor Dominica Ligero today... and discovered that the woman who sold it to me is s Subbie ;) Yep, it was a good day.

Archer -> RE: Cigar Smoking, Fetish or Habbit (8/3/2007 8:31:49 PM)

Fetish is certainly mis used very often these days. Most of what we call fetish today is more akin to a "turn on".

When used as it is most often today in non clinical terms a fetish mearly ends up meaning something that is not normally (to the bell curve of population) sexual being experienced as something that arouses, but rarely to the point of clinical impotence lacking the fetishized item.

Now on to how cigar can be in the colloquial use of the term be a fetish, Well lets see the Cigar is a "masculine" enjoyment historicly so the idea of gender bending is certainly touched on.
The hyper masculine is celebrated by many as a fetishized form, especially true in the gay male aspects of the Leather Community. (a place where I see the majority of the cigar as a fetish colloquial) The Phallic nature of the cigar shape is legendary, so much so that Freud actually is quoted as saying "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" when discussing it's phallic nature in dreams.

I used to have my Cohiba's in my mini humidor in my toy bag back in the days where you could smoke in social areas of the Sanctuary (Archer I'm sure you remember that) it was part of what I liked about the scene, holding court, smoking cigars and talking shit wait that's holding court.

While I do see cigar socials in the gay leather community still, based on society's opinion on smoking it's become fewer and few especially out here in California. I noticed when I visit other cities I don't see it as much.

My only "fetish" to cigar smoking is I think it's hot to see a Female Mistress/Top with one oh my!

LafayetteLady -> RE: Cigar Smoking, Fetish or Habbit (8/4/2007 2:02:16 AM)

Actually, the word "fetish" does not always have a sexual basis.

Main Entry: fe·tish [image]http://www.m-w.com/images/audio.gif[/image]
Variant(s): also fe·tich [image]http://www.m-w.com/images/audio.gif[/image] /'fe-tish also 'fE-/
Function: noun
Etymology: French & Portuguese; French fétiche, from Portuguese feitiço, from feitiço artificial, false, from Latin facticius factitious
1 a : an object (as a small stone carving of an animal) believed to have magical power to protect or aid its owner; broadly : a material object regarded with superstitious or extravagant trust or reverence b : an object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion : PREPOSSESSION c : an object or bodily part whose real or fantasied presence is psychologically necessary for sexual gratification and that is an object of fixation to the extent that it may interfere with complete sexual expression
2 : a rite or cult of fetish worshipers

While it is TYPICALLY used to imply something sexual, it just isn't always the case. Personally, I have a pajama  fetish.  I adore my pj's and when I am feeling a bout of the "blues", I will frequently go out and buy new jammies.  It makes me happy and comfortable to put them on.  I am not turned on by it, but I can honestly say I have an obsessive devotion to them.
