I am a complete virgin to BDSM but I hope that changes soon.  In the meantime I am trying to gain as much knowledge as I can.  I keep reading about sub zone and sub drop.  Is there any relationship between the two?  Are subs who go into sub zone more likely to experience sub drop?

Not necessarily.  Depends on the person and specific circumstances.

Hmmm, that raises a question for me.  Do men get sub drop?  Usually people talk about sub drop among FEMALE subs.  Now I wonder whether that's because male subs don't talk about it, or because they're less likely to experience it.

I may be way off base here biut I don't see why a male sub wouldn't experience sub drop. It is possible we don't hear that much as many males don't freely express emotions to the extent that females do. And yes, there are always exceptions to this!

Sub males most certainly do experience subspace and subsequent drops.

Hello RMarx,
Subspace and subdrop are subjects near and dear to my heart.

Subspace is the body's natural defence to stimulation, either painful or pleasurable.
When stimulus happens, the body goes into a natural fight or flight mode and adrenalin is released.  If adrenalin is released constantly the body can go into overload, whereby endorphins are released in the brain to try and dull the pain.  i associate it with runner's high...the point where you feel your legs burn and your chest heaving and you feel you can't take another step...then all of a sudden the pain goes away and you feel as if you can run forever.   Once endorphins are flying around, all stimulus becomes one, there is no separation of pain or pleasure.  Usually at this point the body become one huge receptor and the mind just dissociates.  ie, "If i'm not here, i can't feel it."

Subdrop happens naturally after that.  With all those chemicals flying around your body there is a withdrawal period afterward, resultant of your blood sugar dropping rapidly and the endorphins leaving your body.  It can come immediately, later in the day, 2 or 3 days later or may not come at all.  Everyone is different.  Some symptoms are cold, vibrating, depression, euphoria, a turning inwards, manic feeling.  Aftercare is vital  immediately after and a continuing watchfulness by the Dom to make sure all its okay.  It can take the form of cuddling, having a cool drink, talking.  After all, you just got beaten upon, usually with a weapon, by the one person you love/trust/respect above all others....it can do stuff to your head.

Having said that, subspace and subdrop happen differently for all people.  And it can happen differently to the same person in various situations.  Get to know yourself and how you react and discuss it with the Top/Dom you are with.

Happy scening!

Maybe...but I can't help noticing that we still haven't heard from a male sub about it.

I think this is the best explanation I've ever heard in regards to this - thanks for the post.

Thank you sintralgasub for your kind words.  After being collared for 8 months with no aftercare at all...and trying to figure out why i felt the way i did after a session...i did A LOT of research.  i found out i'm not totally weird...lol.

Love and light,

I would assume, the deeper the sub space the more aftercare (if she needs that sort of thing or if she/he can merely shake it off) the more of a sub drop likeliness if the proper aftercare wasn't given.

Sure men can get sub drop..even possibly the most insensitive of men could fall apart seemingly if a Dom/Domme brought out bitter/sweet emotions that were maybe a cause of confusion or even physical/mental exhaustion.

Makes me sad if someone would be left in the lurches if their Dominant did not provide the appropriate or rightly amount of aftercare. It is a dangerous if not more dangerous than the actual bdsm act to disregard such care. My friend is going through this..her Dominant does not prescribe to aftercare grr..she becomes manic and frantic within hours after., to the point that she is so utterly confused she drove to the store and didn't even realize it was 3 am and a bad bad part of town.

A bad assumption that no one should make when discussing being involved in a scene together.

It's not dangerous to people who act like mature responsible adults.  If you can't handle the play, then don't play.

She handles her play just fine.  I would only wish her Dom wouldn't be so cold and flippant once he has had his fun.   I think she implied an interest in remaining bound lightly for a while after, in replacement of his 'lacking' in this topic, but if he falls asleep hmmm.  Not sure what to tell her. I sure know what I want to tell him LOL.

Aftercare is part of the play.  It's people who don't realize this that get themselves into so much trouble.

She made her choice.  She's obviously ok with a dom who treats her like that and thinks the consequences are fine for her.
