ORIGINAL: littlebitxxx Hello RMarx, Subspace and subdrop are subjects near and dear to my heart. Subspace is the body's natural defence to stimulation, either painful or pleasurable. When stimulus happens, the body goes into a natural fight or flight mode and adrenalin is released. If adrenalin is released constantly the body can go into overload, whereby endorphins are released in the brain to try and dull the pain. i associate it with runner's high...the point where you feel your legs burn and your chest heaving and you feel you can't take another step...then all of a sudden the pain goes away and you feel as if you can run forever. Once endorphins are flying around, all stimulus becomes one, there is no separation of pain or pleasure. Usually at this point the body become one huge receptor and the mind just dissociates. ie, "If i'm not here, i can't feel it." Subdrop happens naturally after that. With all those chemicals flying around your body there is a withdrawal period afterward, resultant of your blood sugar dropping rapidly and the endorphins leaving your body. It can come immediately, later in the day, 2 or 3 days later or may not come at all. Everyone is different. Some symptoms are cold, vibrating, depression, euphoria, a turning inwards, manic feeling. Aftercare is vital immediately after and a continuing watchfulness by the Dom to make sure all its okay. It can take the form of cuddling, having a cool drink, talking. After all, you just got beaten upon, usually with a weapon, by the one person you love/trust/respect above all others....it can do stuff to your head. Having said that, subspace and subdrop happen differently for all people. And it can happen differently to the same person in various situations. Get to know yourself and how you react and discuss it with the Top/Dom you are with. Happy scening! sage I think this is the best explanation I've ever heard in regards to this - thanks for the post. sgs
