This is actually not nearly as exciting a post as it sounds. You've been warned.

I'm heading to Chicago this weekend to visit a few friends and I need advice on where some good bars are. I typically prefer the hipster, alternative, chuck-wearing, The-Cure-listening types of bars. We're heading up tomorrow (Saturday) and will be spending Saturday night out at some bar after dinner (hopefully at a Pizzeria Uno or Lou Malnati's). I'm really looking forward to the chance to let my hair down and party a bit, but I unfortunately do not know Chicago very well and have uber-planning disorder. We're staying in the Glenview/Evanston area, but I'm definitely alright with the idea of going downtown. If you could give me an idea of atmosphere, typical crowd, drink prices, dress code, or any other details you feel are pertinent, it would be appreciated.

So, with that said, what's your favorite Chicago bar?

How great for you! I love, love, love Chicago!

Wish I could help you out, but I only know of
the gay/lesbian bars.

Maybe google Chicago/Bars, or go to a map site
and get a listing of where the bars are and a map
of downtown, then look up about those bars individually.

There's a lot of great places for evening entertainment.

Thanks! I've been doing some research online and found a few likely places, but there's no substitute for firsthand experience. I know my friends know their way around the bar scene there, but I don't necessarily have complete trust in their choice of drinking atmosphere. LOL. Usually they're with it, but I want to have a backup if I just can't handle the place they've chosen.
