"Authorities puzzled about mother in deaths of children left in hot car"

Where is that much talked about Christian charity? Where is the help that this woman should have recieved? Where is the childcare? Where is stress counselling for this woman on the edge?

The sickness in society is us. We don't care.

...

I wonder how Paris Hilton is spending her day...good thing we secured that oil grab in Iraq. Ah, the pleasure of snivelization - vapid beauty queens and the stink of the vastly wealthy.

Churro, I wouldn't say that people "don't care" that's a blanket statement.
People do care.
But, people who have children need to be,....and here's the word that a lot of people don't want to hear,..."Responsable."
You can't expect the Taxpayers to pay to babysit your kids.
If they choose to be a "Single Mother" life is going to be hard on them.
Many women should be going to school not having kids at age 15-20.
One word, "Norplant."

American-loathing, taken to the level of art form.

Couldn't have happened anywhere else, nope, certainly  not in Marxland.

And those fucking Christians.

charity? ha, I know a lot of people who don't have daycare, I have a friend who goes through a million jobs a year because of childcare issues, but she would never leave her kids in a car, and there is really no assistance. It's damn near impossible to find. In the end I agree with Popeye, parents have to be responsible.

I notice they didn't mention the father of the two kids once.  They mentioned a father of her twelve year old.  I assume that he is a different father.  I only hold the governement responsible for not forcing these deadbeats to pay their fair share of the child rearing responsibility.  There are daycares, but they do cost a pretty penny.  Despite that, a person would have to be either brain dead or living in a cave for the last fifty years to not know that leaving a child in a car is a irresponsible act.

Nice link, Sugar.  I'm not sure how it is society's fault that this happened though, any more than Susan Smith, or the other such events.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought that blaming this on everyone in America wasn't much more than a masochist's mental masturbation, mixed with a little drama queen.

It is a shame, about the story.  Still, how did she.. just leave them in the car without letting anyone know?  Horrible mental lapse, maybe.. or, though perhaps morbid, she was at the breaking point and some unconscious or alternative motivation inclined her to take such a risk?

[I'm only commenting on the birth control front here...]

Well, folks have already asked where the fathers are.  And there are folks out there who are single due to divorce or abandonment. And what say we get the guys out there to use condoms consistently?  They ain't perfect but they do a hell of a lot better than nothing.

Now, as to Norplant-- it hasn't been distributed since 2002.  I heard there was a new version in development, but don't have any current info.  Various hormone-related methods are bad juju for a lot of women; they can raise blood pressure, cause bad headaches, blood clotting, and in some cases (like me), make your brain swell.  Depo-provera is an option, but it'll take you 3 months to shake off the side effects if you have a bad reaction.

If you look at the story again you will see that there are several places where this woman needed a safety net and didn't find one. She may also not be the brightest penny, true.

I don't even have children and I know that we need to do more for those that do have children. No I don't expect most parents to do what this woman did, but one point of the story is that she didn't feel she had any other option and probably didn't realize the deadly potential of her sad solution.

BTW...

I knew most of you would see this as someone else' problem. I knew that the mods would probably bump the thread to this nowhere spot on the boards. It's all so predictable really...

I would ask our European brothers and sisters how frequently these kinds of stories appear on their horizons - I have a strong feeling that the U.S. has a singularly unique kind of stupidity for an advanced industrialized nation of the western world. Civilization implies a cohesive society. Here in the states we want the benefits of civilization while always making the inherent problems someone else's responsibility.

We have to look to the weakest members of society and help them out - that's what it is. Anything less and I can't see the point of civilization.
