FullCircle -> Hearing voices. (8/7/2007 3:14:47 PM)

I’m curious because when I read what people write the voice in my head reading it sounds like me no matter who they are or where they are from. When you read peoples posts is the voice you hear yours or do you imagine what they sound like and put accents to them. If you have met the person do you then hear their voice when you read something they write?

How does this affect your personal communication with them; are you more likely to believe what people write if it’s your voice you hear when you read them. If you are a female sub reading your Dom does him having your girly voice make him sound less of an authority over you?

If I've never met them, I'm usually hearing their written words through a generic sounding voice developed over the years; not any one's in particular nor can it be defined as male or female sounding.

If I have met them, then yes, I do hear the words using their voice, including accents and inflections.

I've talked to a few here on the phone, so I read their posts with their voices.  If I havent met them or heard their voice on the phone, its my voice I read the posts.

OK, I'll take the bait...

You mean to tell me that you've never had an inner voice that sounds off in your head while reading or writing? I'm not talking about the realistic voices that some people argue or carry on never ending conversations with as they're walking down the street. I'm talking about the kind that you hear inside your mind to help personalize what it is you're reading or writing.

I think you're missing out on a unique perspective within yourself if you truly don't.

Hi Full Circle,

Me too. It’s always my voice; even when I’m iming with my friends I still hear my own voice.  I don’t think that it effects my opinion of what they are writing since I’m used to just hearing my own voice, it even happens when I’m reading backs. :)  I'm just glad to know that I"m not alone.

camille65 -> RE: Hearing voices. (8/8/2007 8:14:57 AM)

Yayyy I'm not alone lol. I have always supplied the voices for when I'm reading. Generally I have a basic regional accent that gets used especially with books n such.
When I get to speak to a previously text only friend I do hear their voice when I read them & it is totally natural for me.
Hmmm, I'm a natural nut?? Hehehe.

Oops. Sorry 'bout that myself. Yes, I guess you could call it a gut feeling.

Arpig -> RE: Hearing voices. (8/8/2007 1:56:42 PM)

when I read I do not "hear" the words, I merely comprehend them, so I do not hear what is written in any voice...the voices I do hear are an entirely different matter[;)]

What I remember reading some time ago is that multiple personalities disorder is caused by the language centre of the brain misfiring. It is normal to hear a voice when you read or if you are thinking about something. If however you hear that voice at random moments when you are preoccupied with other tasks and the voice is saying something unrelated to the task maybe then its time to start worrying.
