Support Group to Aid people Who Want to Stop Swearing - 7/2/2005 1:27:16 AM

i posted a thread under "Ask a Master" inquiring, in part, whether submissives had managaged to stop cursing, and if so, how. A few P/pl wrote back, each saying something like "mental discipline"; "think before you speak" and so forth. The point is, each person who succeeded to control or eliminate cursing did it alone.

i feel a support group would be of enormous help to me, and i would hope it might be attractive to others.

We can form a user-created subroom under "chat" here on CM to allow us to talk to each other in real time. i suppose we'd only keep it open a certain numbers of hours/days and try to figure out how best to meet everyone's schedule.

Just to give you an idea of what degree of cursing i'm dealing with, i sometimes curse when typing in an Yahoo IM with a Dom. It's a bit hard to claim "it just slipped out". The truth is, i get tired or lazy and my REAL vocab shows up.

Thanks to everyone who considers this idea.

Or you could try the "cuss jar". Everytime you cuss put a quarter into the jar. When it's full you could mail it off to me!!!! Actually, I would encourage everyone to do this. Yeah. Sounds like a really great plan...er....idea to me. Contact me for shipping info. LOL

Actually, fillepink I do wish you all the best. Bad habits are so hard to break. I cuss too, sometimes more than I should, but certainly not as much as I used to. Someone once told me that people cuss because of ignorance and a limited vocabulary. For some reason that kinda stuck and now when I cuss I do think about that. It has helped me to find more creative ways of expression...although I am still a long way from "cured".

I feel swearing has its place and it does not have it place. Ive been bought up not too swear all the time but in certain times its ok.

If my Dominant swore all the time id actually tell her thats something I want changed. It won't be a ... May you stop swearing, it will be a... Stop swearing as its something i don't like.

Swearing has its place in the bedroom

Also, surround yourself with people and events where swearing is not likely. Don't watch TV shows with swearing in them.

And a PS- force yourself to never swear in email. All it takes is a few seconds to re-read and delete or change the words. Don't let any post with ***'s happen again, this will help you become consciously aware of how much it occurs and get you in the habit of stopping.

LOL, erin. Off topic -- but glad to hear from you on the boards, haven't seen you around as much and wanted to tell you that you are missed and hope you are doing well!!

ON topic -- my three teenagers unfortunately have picked up swearing and I must admit I can tell much of it is habit, although as I remind them, they are able to "control" this habit in school or at the work place, so why not at home? However, since we used to play the game in the car of punching someone in the arm every time we see a VW Bug )or several other cars we have added to the list), I recently told them that I will be doing that as home as well. I actually think it's beginning to have some effect, since I know from experience that it can get really damn annoying to be continually punched in the arm! (As I am the driver and not able to look as much, let's just say that my arm was sometimes sore, lol.)

And as my official disclaimer here: NO I do not PUNCH my children -- this is GOOFING AROUND, not child abuse. This is annoyance and joking, not real pain or anger. Well, ok, when my sons do it to me, I may feel pain, lol. And yes, I have been known to let the occasonal swear word slip from my lips as well, and they will be allowed to offer the same consequence!

Have a happy 4th all!

harmony

Just find a dom who will cane you every time you curse. Or if caning doesn't work, he'll figure out what does. Doms are good at that.

This reminded me that I have a girlfriend who cut down on her swearing by wearing a rubber band on her wrist and everytime she swore she would give it a sharp snap.
