Um, its who you know and not what you know?

That's the way of the world and it always has been.

This is just a case of education inflation. The more graduates a nation has the more the graduate is devalued as a national asset.

The problem seems to be a belief in the US that one just has to work hard and get educated to get on in life which is not true. There will always be a social pyramid and that is something the Europeans found out long ago and tend to believe in more egalitarian societies. A country is always going to need more garbage collectors than professors.

My brother's father in law (who is American) gave him this advice. Don't work hard at earning a living, work hard at accumulating money. Play the system! One can waste a life time believing in government propaganda that a good education and a good work ethic is what is needed for a successful life. They won't harm ones chances but many left on the first base have both and failed to climb the social ladder.

Actually according to an OECD report last year, social mobility is more prevalent in more egalitarian societies than societies such as the US and Britain. Which suggests education diplomas aren't the key to success, though a well rounded education obviously is.

"This is just a case of education inflation."

Then why is corporate America importing people from India,to do high tech jobs?Because it`s cheaper , and they can.In other words,it`s legal. We could change that in a min.Other countries, our competitors, protect their economies and home base.So should we.We (the people) can pass laws that even out the playing field, and give us a fair (not free) trading position in the world.

Don`t wait for multi-national corporations (ie.corporate America)to do the right thing. They`d kill the world, if it was profitable.

Question:  Does the economy exist to serve the people(the common),or do people exist to serve the economy?I think it should swing to the latter.

Let's go to school for the rest of our lives and let the government pay for it. There's the answer. It works in The Netherlands.

It's called "the law of supply and demand."
If  a school is graduating 2,000 lawyers every year but there's only jobs for 1,000 then there's 1,000 lawyers who are going to have to do something else.
I've heard that argument about corporations only responsibility being to the bottom line.
That being the case then why should we have Troops stationed in foreign countries (S. Korea) to protect (their) interests?
If a company or corporation moves it's operations to a foreign country then why should they expect continued access to *our* markets?
I don't see why we should treat corporations any differently than individuals.
As for "degrees" colleges and universities have become "degree factories." "Degrees" are a dime a ton.
Too many people think a "degree" is a key to success.
Look at Bill Gates or the guy who started "Wendy's."
Neither of them had degrees and the guy who started Wendy's didn't even finish high school.
Let's see, I can go to college and get a "degree" and be saddled with $100-$150,000 in debt for the next 20 years, probably not get a job "in my field" or have to move to a different geographical area to get a job paying considerably less than what a long distance trucker makes per year.
Or, take that money and start a business which may fail and at which I may have to work 7 days a week for a long time but has the potential to make me wealthy and not have to work for someone else.
Which one would you pick?
