Have you ever been really thirsty or hungry, and when you open the frig or the cupboards you discover your kids and all there friends have completely cleaned them out of everything right after you've been to the store??!!!!!!!!!! There's nothing to eat or drink...except water, and I hate water!!!! UURRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!! I just think it's amazing how much kids can consume in a couple of hours.

Yes! Its a phenomenon that I can't figure out either. How is it possible to spend $200 and in three days have nothing left to eat??? (And I'm still trying to figure out the best way to answer that when my owner asks...lol).

best regards,
fate

Let me share something that worked for me when my fridge would continually appear empty. After watching what went and what didnt, I brought it down to Kid's self consume what is easy. Easy being fast, so anything convienant disapeared from the grochery list and replaced with the dreaded *ingrediants* that took too long. Thing is the youngest daughter has a new trick, she can cook. Grrrrr

When my oldest boy was 17 yrs old I had exactly this experience. I had gone grocery shopping, come home, put everything away and made a big pot of chili. I had to go out and run some more errands and was gone for about 2 hours. When I returned home the chili was gone. So were 2 packages of hot dogs and buns, 1 container of sour cream, 1 bag of shredded cheddar cheese, 2 frozen pizzas, 1 lb of bacon bits(which puzzled me the most), a gallon of milk, 2 two litres of Mountain Dew, a bag of peaches, one bunch of bananas, a half gallon of ice cream and a bag of chocolate chip cookies...basically everything that I had just purchased.

I followed the music to my son's room and when the door opened, there sat 5 teenage boys(all covered in mud and dirt from playing football), licking the remnants off of their fingers. Well I lined all of those boys up on the couch and we had a "Come to Jesus" meeting. I never had that same issue again and although every one of those boys ended up eating many meals in my home, they always waited to be invited or at the very least they would ask me if I minded if they had _____...

It amazes me what growing teenage boys can consume. As for the bacon bits.....they became chili and pizza toppings.

I couldn't agree with you more. I started hiding little packs of what I wanted and drinks, just so I would have some of my own. The thing that got me was when they ate everything and then didn't bother to tell me we needed more!! Oh well, I guess thats what kids are suppose to do, make sure the parents go crazy

I had 4 kids. They were all teenagers at the same time since there was only 5 yrs between the oldest and youngest...I finally broke down and bought one of those little apartment size refidgerators for our bedroom to keep our favorite drinks and snacks in..Milk seemed to be the worst ..we went through almost 10 gallons a week.It still amazes me what kids can eat.My oldest is 26 now and his girlfeiend says he still eats like a horse..i have to say i'm just glad they are healthy and that i was able to provide for them ..so many out there cannot

My teenagers aren't as bad as the six year old....as she is very social and whenever anyone comes over, she thinks they need to eat or drink. And of course they have to try everything, so its not enough to give them a bagle with cream cheese...she also has to offer them cereal, chicken nuggets or anything else that comes to mind. :::sigh::: I keep trying to tell her...they live next door...they are not starving to death.

best regards,
f (who is doing the dreaded shopping today...again)

My cupboards and fridge are always full of yummy healthy stuff. Lots of fresh veggies, fruits, etc. That is because:

a) I'm a health nut
b) I don't have children
c) My only housemate is a cat
d) The cat can't reach the cupboard or fridge handles

Ok.....im officially scared now. Between Master and I, we have 6 kids, my 4 and his 2, all from pervious relationships. And they eat like horses now!!! Case in point...A week ago I made chili in the lovely 7 quart crockpot my parents got me for Christmas. 7 quarts is a lot of friggin chili! These kids ate every last bit of it! There was enough for me to get one bowl out for MAsters lunch the next day but that was it...I got nothing...

I can see now that Master is going to need two jobs and I'll have to go back to work once these human garbage disposals become teens....*sigh*

Sounds like my mom's house when I was younger. I have 5 brothers and sisters and we can eat like crazy. Our typical weekly shopping trips involved two heaping full shopping carts and several trips back during the week to get milk, bread, eggs and other staples.
Here's an example of a typical breakfast at my house:
2 dozen eggs (scrambled in the giant electric skillet), 2 packages of bacon, 2 loaves of wheat bread, 2 boxes of cereal, a gallon and a half of milk (at least), and a gallon of orange juice.

And that is just breakfast, we do it all over again at lunch and dinner

Now that half of us have moved away my mom has more food in the house, but whenever we all come and visit she still makes tons of food (last time, 10 quarts of chili, a 9x13 pan of corn bread and two packages of noodles)
My mom is a great cook and can cook huge amounts of food, I still don't know how she does it

I swear, I'm not the person who eats all of the cereal and pasta as soon as it's bought >_>. Actually, in my house, I am. Atkins diet be damned, I live off carbs and I'm skinny. I think part of the reason that my brain tells me to eat as much as I can the instant it gets in the house is because, when I was younger, there wasn't always a lot of food. So, I take it when I can and end up not thinking about making it last.

siamsa24 your post made me think of summers at my Aunt's house.

7 boys of their own
Myself & my 3 brothers
any number of neighborhood boys

... all of us under the big wood picnic table having lunch or dinner.

Right after we said grace someone typically said "grab it & growl"

The kitchen look like a military kitchen, pots that a small child could bathe in, pans large enough to fry parts from two complete chickens. Cornbread was always made in cast iron skillets & she would typically make about 8 loafs at a time.

I have not come to the point of a mini-frig, but I guess that is next on the list. Stashing my own goodies is not as effective as it use to be, they know I have it & always end up with my items before I can finish them.

Yes, it happens to me every week. I also have this habit of continually opening the cupboards/fridge every thirty minutes for hours on end just to 'make sure' there isn't something 'good' in them. Even though no groceries have entered the house in between inspection, I expect that if I wait long enough and peek back in, something great will have magically appeared.

I get let down a lot in life. *Sighs* LOL!

my 4 year old is the same way. When their mother is out of town, they practically live at my house and my daughter is constantly "feeding" them. LOL i dont mind cooking meals and feeding all.. but sheesh.. though i try and temper myself and not make a big fuss. As i KNOW what its like over there.

I just realized that my mother has two full size 'fridges, a dorm size 'fridge and one of those industrial chest freezers (not the little dinky home chest freezers, it's a beast) and that isn't quite normal........
