All I'm saying is that "I" didn't ask any of them to go fight and most wars are senseless and have NOTHING to do with our rights lol..more like fighting for oil, money, power......when was the last war we had over freedom of speech ? lol ...The Middle East ..they're over there and don't even belong there...9/11 happened because we couldn't keep our asses out of everyone elses' problems..sorry, but that is true.

Then your beef is actually with our government, not the men and women who put their lives on the line.  Big difference.  I can support our military and the sacrifices these soldiers make and not agree with wars.  That I deal with by how I vote.

The politicians fight for it.  The soldiers die for it.  There can be a vast separation between supporting the troops and supporting the wars.

A man under arms hasn't a great deal of choice, the scrambled eggs says dive once more unto the breach dear freinds, and by god you don't ask why?

when people ask me what I think about the military I usually say nothing. is it bad to really have no opinion? it's their choice, if they die- they knew the risks....what about celebrating the lives of all the children fallen at the hands of drive by shootings? Or all the women raped and murdered? There are alot of people who did wonderful things but will never be heard of because they are not in the spot light.

I like cats but I don’t have any because they piss over your furniture and claw your legs.

have fun at ft gordon.....i was there in 82, and it was actually a great place back then.....certainly nicer than ft dix in the wintertime....ugh....

id imagine its still the same.  they had every branch of service there, some folks from foreign countries, it was a mix of all kinds......the education i got there helps me to this day.

and i learned its way more fun to use your brain than your back....changed mos from truck driver to radio repair......

Krissi,
i mean no offense by this however, this does not appear to be an exactly true statement..Because based on Your previous post You do clearly have an opinion...i have no issue with people having opinions, beliefs, thoughts, etc...What i do have an issue with (and again this is generalize and not specifically to You) is people who forget that there's a difference between supporting a war and supporting a soldier... An example: My sister and brother in law enrolled in the Air Force 21 years ago..Things were much different now..My sister has since gotten out, however my brother in law remains in active duty... (And trust me i'm not the guy's biggest supporter in the world here)...i will support the men and women who elect to go into the services and put their lives on the line for someone like me... This debate kind of reminds me of where in the Bible it says "hate the sin" but "love the sinner"....It seems we so easily forget that separation as well...
Oh GREAT!!! Now y'all have me quoting the Bible...i hold each and everyone of Your responsible when i self implode and become nothing more than a small ball of fire...

This is worth repeating over and over and over and over...........

I have spent my entire life surrounded by military personel in some form or another. Always a few friends and family members off in far away places, some less dangerous and more boring than others.

I am usually very vocal about my political beliefs and most often they are at odds with whatever political actions have caused those I love to be away and in danger. Maturity and education has taught me where to point the finger and where to be supportive.

The fact is, we will always need a military. This ain't utopia. It is up to the free citizens of this country to provide the government leaders that use wisdom in choosing how that military is utilized.

Krissi,

Just to offer some context; frankly, and for the record, I have no problem with people voicing opposition to either the military, or to the political machinery that controls it.  In fact, it's safe to say I'm willing to die to protect your right to do just that.

Would you?

Stephan

No I would not. I have four young ones who need me "alive". They already lost my late Master who was like a father to them- they don't need anymore loss. And I'm glad you are able to make the decisions that are best for your life - good luck to u.

See, what I hope isn't lost, is that I don't want you to.  I don't want anyone else to, in fact, be they military or not.

I'm an extremely vocal opponant to what we, and do mean we as a nation send our military off to do.

That doesn't eliminate the necessity for the military to exist, in the first place.  I chose the national guard, because they're the unit most likely to defend the US, at home, in time of need.

Stephan

Wishing you the very best Stephan.   I have the utmost respect for those who not only choose to serve their country, but do so in such volatile times.

My oldest nephew was regular Army for 6 years, then joined the Louisiana National Guard after that.  He did tours in Bosnia and that area when things were nasty there in the 90s.  And after joining the Guard, he was sent to Iraq.
He's now a recruiter for the National Guard.

Thank you for your service, both in the past and coming up.  I'm proud of ya!

I have a friend in the Indiana National Guard. His unit has been called up and will be shipping out to Iraq in January (give or take a month).

I admire you Stephan very much for what you are doing (and indeed what you have already done as a Marine) and I thank you. I personally do not have the strength to do it. I am very grateful. My grandfather served in the US Army during World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts among other medals. It is men like him and you that actually make the history I study.

That said, there is a difference between supporting the war and supporting the troops. Simply because a man or woman chooses to serve their country does not mean they are choosing to support the war. They are fighting for a higher cause. Yes, they know the risks, but it doesn't mean they support the President or what he stands for and it is important to understand that.

I'd like to say thank you to the kind people who've offered support.

It's not something I, or most people in the military like to admit; but like a few other professions, it's not exactly a profession one enters hoping to get rich.  The support others offer, make it easier (if not outright possible) to make that decision.  And I'd be lying, if I said I wasn't a little nervous about it.

Stephan
