I'm cooking a huge pot of Chicken and Sausage Gumbo for an educational event being held there this coming Saturday. Master Archer and his slave Elegant are doing a couple of presentations at our playspace and we're serving lunch and dinner, then it's a play party afterwards!

Ohhh man, I am so very homesick. I am very proud to have been a part of RSVP's (then CAPE's) first baby steps and delighted to know that the group thrives. I went to my very first ever Munch and Play party at CAPE. I remember it vividly to this day. I was so terrified walking up to the door. I tentatively reached up to knock, and heard this horribly terrifying scream. I tucked tail and ran back to my car. Scared the life out of me. I composed myself and snuck back up the steps to peek in the window. Turns out the scream was a Cockatoo....with a delightful talent for mimickry. Great fun. Great people. Great food. <packing up to move home now!

Danke schoen HM... Re: southern cooking... surprisingly not a fan of it, given how much time I've spent in NO and Savannah. Just waaaaay too heavy for my tastes. Yes, Creole has French roots and that's my supposed stock in trade... but Vietnamese and Hmong is just as French-Colonial and quite a bit more interesting. Good grits... that transcends boundaries... Try this: make yr "dinner grits" per your usual method, preferably using chicken broth as a basis. Add sautéed mushrooms, a tiny bit of fish sauce to correct for saltiness, a bit of basil chiffonade and a bit of minced coriander before completely cooked. Immediately before serving, break eggs onto the surface and DO NOT stir. Let the whites set a bit and then serve. Great stuff for breakfast as well...

Doms need to have a little more tact, and respect.
