Termyn8or -> Ron Paul (8/13/2007 1:52:23 PM)

I just read that he ranks third in money raising.

I would consider that to be very good news. Even if he doesn't make it, this should send a message to the oil shills that the US people are getting fed up with their antics.

MasterDoc1 -> RE: Ron Paul (8/13/2007 2:00:10 PM)

Actually he ranks third among republicans in cash on hand NOT money raising; others have raised more but spent it as fast as it came in. The Paul cmpaign hasn't blown theirs. They treat their campaign money the way they would treat our tax money if he were elected..
How much have YOU contributed Term? he doesn't take money form special interest groups so every little bit helps.

Termyn8or -> RE: Ron Paul (8/13/2007 2:15:02 PM)

Having a bit of financial strife right now. But if the opportunity arises, Paul gets my money first.

I also read that most of his contributions, EVEN for representative, come from outside his district. But then only the voters in his district can vote for him so he obviously has plenty of support at home.

The only thing that bothers me is that Paul and Bush are from the same state.

I'll get over it. After all, Yisroel Wiess and Ariel Sharon are from the same place, and they are pretty much diametrically opposed.

I may have to stand corrected, that is yes Paul HAS more money, not that he collected more money. Now I wonder what a guy with a brain can do with it. I would be planning a media bash, blasting policy to the limit of the law right before the primaries. We can only hope.

popeye1250 -> RE: Ron Paul (8/13/2007 2:21:02 PM)

I've donated $300-$400 so far I think.

Durus -> RE: Ron Paul (8/13/2007 4:33:19 PM)

I've defended Ron Paul in the past for his mulitple brave constitutional stances that both parties hated. His postion on the war is off the rails however and I can help but think it is a political triangulation more then based on ideology. That being said if he ends up being the pubbie candidate I will happily vote for him. I don't think there is any chance of that happening and I'm not supporting him in the primaries.

He gave a great speech in Iowa---Prolly one of the best I've heard in a long time. His comments regarding Iraqi bridge building and the creation of money ''out of thin air'', ala hyperinflation oughta wake a few up.

The rest of the GOP hasn't a clue. And the shills on the democratic side of the isle are far worse. The sad thing is that for some reason even some of the most learned Americans can't seem to fully understand that if you only earn ten dollars a day in wages, you can't go to the store and spend fifteen or twenty.

A great video of the speech.

Yeah!!! Popeye.....

I think the GOP leadership/insiders have plans to kill his campaign.They ignore him or bad mouth him,and have black-balled him.

The best statement that people could make ,is a money donation to his campaign.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Ron Paul (8/13/2007 10:14:18 PM)

What is going to kill Ron Paul is his foreign policy and national security stances.

It's that simple.

True, the people do not like our troops positioned all over the world. But people understand that simply pulling them out is not the solution. If Paul was elected, he would pull troops out of South Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He would declare to the world that we no longer support Israel. He would pull out of the UN, NATO, and every alliance we have ever built. Do you have any idea the global chaos such a policy would amount to? Economies would crash. Governments would fall. And the US will be thrown into depression. Not to mention we will not only still be hated by Islamic terrorists... but our allies around the world will see that we are cowards who have abandoned every friend we have. And when terrorists attack us again.... And yes, they sure as hell will attack us again no matter what policy we take.... do you think any nation in their right mind would want to help us?

Ron Paul makes some good domestic and economic points.... but his foreign policy ideas are about as stupid as Obama's.

Well bush has pulled us out of the Geneva Conventions,the SALT treaty,and just about every treaty we have.How much more damage can be done.

I`d like to see some radical thinking,from a real republican.

Everything you said was debatable.Why can`t we have the "let`s do it and see what happens" approach to foreign policy,like the one bush and the neo-conservatives have,and elect Paul.

Every time someone said,"hey ,you shouldn`t do that because",the bushies would say," We`re in charge,you`re not,we make the rules,let`s try it and see what happens anyway"If it goes wrong,we`ll blame it on Bill Clinton.

popeye1250 -> RE: Ron Paul (8/13/2007 11:00:12 PM)

Cyber, we can't afford to keep doing all that stuff.
We've had Troops in S. Korea for 54 years now, how much longer are they going to be there, forever?
As for our "alliances" what kind of alliances are they if we have to pay all the bills?
The "U.N." and Nato are useless. We should have been out of both of them long ago.
Whoever is the next President should get us out of them.
We will have a depression if we keep heading in the same direction that we're going in now.
The U.S. is not an Empire.
Clinton and Bush never met a one-way trade deal that they didn't like.
We don't need to trade with every country in the world.
And, we shouldn't be getting involved in foreign countrie's problems.

That`s right Popeye,tell`m straight!

He`s make`n sense.Clinton did sign some bad trade deals,as did bush.

We could use a president who thought about America first,with his forign trade policy.

From a true fiscal position , we can no longer afford to engage in nation-building or extensive military outlay, Cyberdude611. The country is bankrupt and borrowing two-and half-billion dollars a day just to pay the interest on debt financed by China, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Russia.

In essence, every penny collected in taxes is being distributed to foreign entities as interest payments because of extreme malfeasance on the behalf folks put in charge to manage our country.

 He would declare to the world that we no longer support Israel.

That's not true by a long shot. What Ron Paul has purposed is that we no longer support Israel at the current fiscal level.

Israel has transferred weapon systems technology and actual sophisticated weapons /avionics / guidance systems to PLA that has in-turn been reciprocal in nature when the Chinese have sold it to Iran who in turn gave it Hamas /Hezellbolah.

If the nation-state of Israel fades to the depths of the Mediterranean, all we as Americans can do is ask that they take the Prophet Muhammad with them.

Please deliver citations to support your claim here. I have read where he's mentioned that he thinks we should take on a diminished role in NATO.....but not end it.

quote:

They're on the verge of collapse right now. Whether or not we minimize our role in these alliances is of no consequence. The overspending and fiscal non-accountability of the past cannot be undone.

This is where you're parroting canned propaganda. The ''coalition of the willing'' is a complete fantasy. The people in these other countries aligned with NATO that we're part of, are all unified in their belief that we shouldn't engage in preemptive war. Again....the people are tired and no longer want to wake up every day and hear war war war.

Well, the amount of support our Government provides to Israel pales in comparison to the amount Isreal walks away from in private donations.  I personally dont care what people do with money they earn.  Not my money, what the hell difference does it make to me?

Refuse to allow donations to Israel to be tax-exempt and Israel's billions of dollars a year in tax-free donations would dry up.

Not that I expect the Israel supporters on this thread to agree with me, but it is business, not personal.

popeye1250 -> RE: Ron Paul (8/14/2007 7:28:26 PM)

I'd like to do a lot of things too but I can't afford to.
The U.S. is so far in debt now that people don't even realise it!
Just the interest payments are killing us.
Say that you had to pay $20,000 per month just on the interest on your debts, that's what's happening right now to the U.S.
Having Troops and Ships all over the world is tremendously expensive that's why other countries don't and can't do it.
And I think that by any stretch of the imagination having Troops in a country for 54 years is unneccessary.
