what would you do if you knew that your friend was doing things that were illeagle such as
  1. selling drugs
  2. about to commit violent act
  3. speeding
  4. bank fraud
  5. drinking and driving

  • would you turn them in
  • turn a blind eye

earthycouple -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 5:30:09 PM)

you put speeding with selling drugs, fraud and violent acts?  interesting.

ELUSIVE1 -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 5:42:42 PM)

I would never report anyone--those are their mistakes--not mine--they can live with the decisions they make...so long as I am not in the car during a drunken speeding drug deal with counterfeit bills that would result in me getting shot...there did I cover all possibilities??? if you were meant to be a tattle tail, you would be wearing a butt-plug tail....[8D]

SugarMyChurro -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 5:42:51 PM)

Generally, I might try to talk them out of self-destructive behavior but I would not rat them out to the authorities unless what they were planning was truly a danger to society at large.

1. selling drugs - I don't care. The CIA sells drugs. I don't associate with addicts.
2. about to commit violent act - I'd need more info, this one is a maybe.
3. speeding - You must be joking or a half-wit.
4. bank fraud - Con the con men? Don't care. Wouldn't want to know.
5. drinking and driving - I'd take their keys away from them and try to talk some sense into them. I don't associate with drunkards.

In actuality I don't keep people as friends if they get involved in stuff that creeps me out and they feel the need to tell me about it or somehow to include me in the circle of those in the know.

speaking of creeping out....I occasionally dream things that later happen (can't spell it...but de je vu?)  and I've read this post before.  Apparently, SMC you are in my dreams!  Go figure.

Back to the post.  While I chose to wonder how in the hell the OP could include speeding with those I also simply don't associate with those who go against my grain, so to speak.

Alumbrado -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 5:48:04 PM)

I wonder if it is the difference between choosing your friends, or having them choose you? [:D]

Celeste43 -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 6:21:28 PM)

If a drunk acquaintance was determined to drive home, damn straight I would call his license plate in. It would save his life and that of others if he got sober because he was hauled into court.

I'm not putting speeding with the others, and besides without proof it wouldn't do any good, maybe he was just blowing off steam when he said he planned to kill his boss. Now if I knew details such as where he was planning to do this, saw the gun etc that would be different. But like the others, I don't associate with people like this.

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 6:30:29 PM)

most of things would be spousal abuse child abuse those things or maybe someone neighbor that races up and down your street that your kids play in or maybe someone that rips off a creditcard and plays shopping mall with it
those kinda of things

earthycouple -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 6:39:31 PM)

MY friends wouldn't race up and down the street where my kids play....they are my friends after all...how bout everyone else?  Spousal abuse/child abuse would be turned in regardless of who the pathetic bastard is.....and again...not my friend.

TheHeretic -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 6:39:33 PM)

        For that closest few, not only will I turn a blind eye, I'll become an accessory after the fact.

domiguy -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 6:45:00 PM)

I once knew a beautiful woman....She had the most beautiful soulful brown eyes, her tits defied gravity, her legs long and sexy, you could crack an egg on her ass, Sucked pipe like no other.....Her pussy smelled of pancakes.....

Unfortunately she was a lead foot...Had to cut her loose.

marieToo -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 6:47:12 PM)

 If I saw child abuse I would report it.  If it was a friend or family member who was doing it, I would break their jaw first and then report it.

As far as the other offenses listed, it would all depend upon the circumstances.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 6:49:35 PM)

I would turn them in, in a heartbeat.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 8:06:24 PM)

1) Wouldn't care unless he was selling to people I do not want to have drugs
2) Would depend upon whom. If it was not someone close to me, then they need to understand the consequences of their actions. The world can be a violent place, it is a fact of life that will always be there.
3) they should understand the consequences of their actions
4) This involves deception on a large scale, and if that is part of who they are, then I don't want to be their friend. Honesty and trust mean alot to me.
5) take their keys from them. They had the choice to drink, but once impaired, they need someone else to make that decision for them

If it directly effects me and mine, then the circumstances have changed. I confront them, even with strangers, and when managed properly, have usually gotten the effect I desire.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 8:10:50 PM)

Child abuse and spousal abuse has some very wide defintions depending upon circumstance and area. Is spanking your child, abuse? In some areas it is. Is raising your voice to your spouse abuse? In some areas it is.

        Then you have that what many of us, on this site, do to (or accept from) our partners is illegal in many places.  A nice flogging would be considered aggravated battery, for instance, and consent is irrelevant.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 8:59:22 PM)

This is a good point in fact. In some states you cannot consent to assault or physical harm of your body by another, unless it is sporting events, which have a special clause. This means that the legal and ethica; defintions of such things as the word "abuse" will vary, so a definition of how we are going to discuss it, needs to be established.

Tell him/her,not to brake two laws at once.

FullfigRIMaam -> RE: Honor Among Friends (8/13/2007 11:38:02 PM)

What I do depends on the consequence to anyone else, and how strongly I feel about the wrongdoing.    M
