A Nurses opinion and you asked for it.....initialy you were pulled over for  1..Speeding whilst on your way to the 2..Dealer's and the consequent sobriety test showed you were 3..Drunk a search showed the credit card purchases which on follow up proved to be a 4..credit card spree and you were charged with 5..Bank Fraud and your neighbour's are tired of you 6..Raceing up and down the street but you were this time leaveing home and 7.. About to Commit a Violent Crime by capping your Dealer whom you are in debt to and your poor friend has coped the blame for it all in a typical sociopathic tendancy . Larst but not least your poor friend is getting  buggered in goal for the next 7 year's .

what would you do if you knew that your friend was doing things that were illeagle such as

1. selling drugs
2. about to commit violent act
3. speeding
4. bank fraud
5. drinking and driving

* would you turn them in
* turn a blind eye

1. selling drugs: The legality of drugs seems arbitrary. Alcohol is legal and universally accepted as dangerous, but can have health benefits. No single case of overdose exists for marijuana or LSD but under the influence of these psychotropics many bad things can happen. Tough call, depends on the drug. Selling booze to minors, you bet I'd make that call. Selling pot to adults, not so much.

2. about to commit violent act: I interpret this as violence as in bodily harm, and that's not something I would risk 'policing' nor want to be thought to aid or abet.

3. speeding: In a school zone, no quarter. In general I call in any plate when reckless driving affects me or mine. Can you say vehicular manslaughter?

4. bank fraud: Been there done that. Had my identity stolen, and the ring had a nice 10k shopping spree. I would hope that it might actually "save" a friend by getting caught, and would hope they could pay restitution with treatment to remain a free member of society. One can hope...

5. drinking and driving YES, on Speed dial that one. (Warning a long explanation follows)

BIG issue for me. I survived a brutal crash caused by a drunk driver. Fractured pelvis, crushed knee, broken arm, detached retinas (I was temporarily blind), dislocated jaw, 5 herniated disks, whiplash and a concussion. Not to mention post traumatic stress, depression, panic/anxiety, rage, anger, insomnia, long term use of pain medication, and anti-depressants. I planned retribution, and my own suicide a few times. My marriage did not survive, my children were traumatized and in short, I survived but the life I had did not.

Now get this. Two years later, a DUI stole my identity (it was probably sold to a few crooks) and was in a crash that injured 1 adult and 2 children. She used my name, was jailed, convicted and did her time in prison ON MY GOOD NAME. Needless to say, that good name was trashed both in my credit rating but worse my criminal record! She violated her parole and there were 2 warrants (no bail) again on my name. I was jailed under those warrants (my name, not my crime!).

So a drunk driver has screwed me in two instances. Watch out for identity theft, you can live with bad credit but losing your freedom is not living!

MaDom Aura - ok I am off that soap box!

  1. selling drugs - I've had this problem come up - if it's green, I don't care, otherwise yer gonna get dropped as a friend, I'm not getting into trouble for your actions
  2. about to commit violent act - if it's stupid, I'm gonna stop it....now if they knew, say, who raped them or some bizarre situation like that, more power to them
  3. speeding - I live in Chicago ahaha, it doesn't matter, a cab will probably crash into you anyways
  4. bank fraud - I'll have nothing to do with that!  I'd probably drop the friend.
  5. drinking and driving - I wouldn't turn someone into the cops, I'd get their damn keys.......and I have
I'm not big on "turning people in".........but I could be jaded from my experiences in Chicago - I've known of people who've turned others in - it tends to come back to them.
  • would you turn them in
  • turn a blind eye

  1. selling drugs: depends on their customer base... selling weed and coke to friends is one thing; but if they're out on the street corner selling to any kid passing by, i'll do what i have to in order to put an end to it
  2. about to commit violent act  - depends on the motivation and the extremes that they would go to
  3. speeding - everyone speeds, unless you're talking about illegal street-racing or reckless driving
  4. bank fraud - that's their own stupidity,.it's not like they'll get away with it
  5. drinking and driving - i don't let my friends drink and drive
not "ratting" your friend has nothing to do with honor, it's cowardice... an honorable friend won't put you in the position to choose between them and a potential victim
