MistressJane23 -> Why do subs disappear? (8/14/2007 5:52:20 AM)

I'm just confused. Someone says he's really interested, I put aside some time to chat with him with a view towards meeting up, and suddenly his profile is gone.

Cold feet? Fantasist? Offended someone else and got deleted?

One wonders.

Jane

that's pretty typical on here, Ma'am...for both Tops and bottoms. i think alot of people want to remain as online regardless of the promises of meeting offline. maybe they just want to keep the fantasy alive.

The same reason that Doms disappear. People find it very easy to say anything behind the safety of their computer screens, when push comes to shove, the reality is far to frightening for them to contemplate, since now, instead of the fantastic persona they created online, now the real person would have to show up, warts and all.

Jane,  could be any or all.  It happens more than it doesn't and you have to learn to look at it as fun and games.  I bet my husband "How much he doesn't show tonight?"

Sometimes I'm lucky, sometimes not.

In the grand scheme, though, I've learned not to care til I know, face to face, that he is someone worthy of my time *in that he shows when he's supposed to show*

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Why do subs disappear? (8/14/2007 6:03:29 AM)

that is so true on so many levels. i'm always open to meeting people offline. just haven't found anyone that will follow through.

I was seeing a submissive from here for a while and she suddenly blocked me and changed her cell phone number too, so that just happens I guess!

What you have to understand with the internet is that anyone can be anything - it doesn't mean it has any relevance to their real life.  If you're online and looking for real time, you need to be very thick skinned, because you're going to have to sort through a lot of BS to find one or two real people - and then you have to hope that they're attracted to you and you're attracted to them and perhaps THEN you'll progress to meeting.

You can minimize the wankers by not engaging in any kind of cyber play (this is all many are looking for), by limiting your consideration to those that have experience (although it's not always to tell - I always looked for specific information on specific scene events they'd attended), by revolving conversations around who each of you are as people (rather than what would you do to them), and by moving things along fairly quickly to meet face to face for coffee or dinner (think in a matter of weeks, not months).    Set up your schedule, let them know what it is, and don't take excuses.

As always, your best bet is to get involved in your local scene.

I knew a guy who would come online as a woman.  He was only interested in online interaction, no phone, no getting together, ect.

This really does happen often.  Generally, I won't chat right away just because someone invites me to chat.  I will tell them to please put together a message that tells me more about them & what they are looking for.  I ask them to give me a general idea as to their availability & to let me know how soon they thing they can make it for a real time meet.  More often than not, I don't hear from the person again, & their profile has disappeared.  Rather than get upset about it, I look at it, as a way of weeding out the people who want this real time, & those who don't.

Cold feet and fantasizing pretty well sums up the poofers.

littleone35 -> RE: Why do subs disappear? (8/14/2007 7:02:39 AM)

Some people are so amazing  on line at least.  When it comes to r/l they w\either cannot back up the claims they made on line or just get scared.  I say well if they can't show up i was too good for them anyway.

Just to share a little story i met a dom (before i met my Master).  At a diner he said i am not really hungry why don't we go to that coffee shop across the street.  I said ok he siad i will meet you there just have to stop at the money machine.  I went ther he never showed.  So stuff happens i was better off without a guy like that anyway.

I met a wonderful woman off of here...We shared time that would be envied by most....After that, she never contacted me again....On lonely evenings I find my thoughts drifting towards her, I wonder how she is and what she is doing....It is moments such as these that I force myself to recall upon the fact that I killed her.

vield -> RE: Why do subs disappear? (8/14/2007 7:36:09 AM)

This is way too common and there is no possible way to know the reason unless the person comes forward.

Reasons range from computer failure to cold feet to heart attack to attention deficit to sadism to fear you are the boss' sister to guilts about many things, and thousands of other potential reasons.

This is one reason many pro-dommes and pro-subs collect in advance of the session and charge you whether you show or not.

Lots of people just get scared.  If someone is just looking for kicks online, they will panic when it gets too close.  Others might really be looking for real, but they back off when it gets to the point of jumping off the diving board into the water.

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Why do subs disappear? (8/15/2007 9:48:04 AM)

i'm not afraid to meet people offline.
