Ghita, I'm glad all is ok in the end. Its scary when little ones get hurt, and you feel like such a dumb shit (I know I did) when it happens. But they do, thank God, heal.

We have an aviary in the back yard. It was a gift from me to wife about 7 years ago to get most of the damn birds out of the house and into the back yard. It worked. Now the only house birds are the two loud and obnoxious parrots, and the shy quail who can't be outside or she defeathers herself.
But Current residents in the aviary are few: A guinea hen that we picked up a few years ago, a couple of "meat pigeons" rescued from some defunct coop, and THE DUCK. The duck started as a cute little ball of fluff one Easter several years ago. Now he's this huge honkin' Pekin duck who is so fat and has such an overdeveloped breast, he can't fly...he sort of runs and huffs and puffs and falls back to earth a lot.
We used to have a golden pheasant and his harem, two "paired" females. Now there was a cock! He had the whole neighborhood in his thrall. But he made a break for it one summer day, spent a week on a neighbor's roof imitating a weathervane, and vanished. We kept the girls a bit longer, but gave them back to the game farm.
