Waitress : What'll you have?

Dracula is a fantastic book.  I loved the part where he pursues Mina through a fin de siecle London and me and a friend once  whiled away a slightly sketchy afternoon trying to decide which Gothic mansion in Piccadilly would have been the one he rented.

Bram Stoker's Dracula was okay, for its era, but the Coppola movie with Gary Oldman in it was major rubbish. Vampire movies tend to age badly. One film that was better than the book: Interview with the Vampire. Anne Rice is a terrible writer, but her book made for quite a good screenplay. Neil Jordan directing helped, I suppose.

I liked Coppola's Dracula.  It owed a lot to the early cinema and was closer to the book - and it had Tom Waits, not seen since Rumblefish.  The book was pretty innovative, I thought. Although it is laden with some rather lumpen prose, I dug the whole epistolary idea.  Never read any Anne Rice but I know a couple of people who had blink and you'll miss 'em parts in Interview..

Also... didn't Coppola's Dracula have cool scenes on early steam-powered tube trains?  Or am I thinking of Wings of a Dove?  Or both?

Crapula was kitschy. That was one of its charms, but I saw it again very recently and I swear I cringed, it was so painful. And Ryder can't act to save her life.

The one cool scene: where Oldman's walking around cardboard London with his pink tinted metal-framed spectacles on. Sooooo nineties lol!

Hi

Oh yes i would love to have a vampire bite me, i can think of few more erotic things. Please do tell me where i can meet one.

As for a werewolf, well perhaps not bite me, but meeting one, oh ye i would like that. But then i am a supernatural slut. :D

i wish you well

Man, everyone's a critic!

You can't say it's kitschy one moment and complain about the acting in the next, that's the whole point!  And Winona doesn't have to act, she just has to say, "Get some!"

True true... I'm a born critic, I'm afraid. Virgo and all that... Queen of deconstruction and pointy dressing downs.

PS: the movie we're discussing is cringeworthily good. How's that, for a compromise :-) ?

PPS: one can also say, wonderfully awful.

I love the vampire fetish scene... ( Blood is just so *pretty* ) and can dig the weres.. ( Primal sex? Hell yes! Just slap my arm back in to socket honey.. ) but the undead , not to mention the accompanying smell, just freaks my cookies. Thanks but no thanks.

And no... 250,000 vodun priest's can't all be right. Don't care.. they are creepy.

BTW if you like all 3.. or just want a good book to read with scads of sex.. look up Laurell K. Hamilton. http://www.laurellkhamilton.org/  Anita Blake raises  zombies but humps the other 2 her books. Great read.

Gwyn

Have I mentioned I adore you, Gwyn? I love Laurell!

Thing about becoming a werewolf is; do you shit and piss outdoors like a dog?  I have certain standards to maintain... admittedly, quite low ones but still, it simply won't do to raise my leg at a lamp post.

I wish you'd posted a warning!!!  *grumbles as I wipe up the water that just spewed*

Gee, get bit by an animal, turning into said animal every full moon, becoming close to indestructable, & enjoying the power of raw animal lust, or...

Get drained of blood by an ice cold Eastern European corpse, sleeping on dirt in coffins, becoming deathly allergic to the sun & Italian food, & having to fear crosses, holy water & wood... (not very romantic now is it?)

I'll take the Big Bad Wolf any day of the week.

Oh, and for the Zombies, I don't eat brains...Ever.

I used to think that being a vamp would be cool.
I thought that I could become beautiful and etheral and all that cool shit.

Then I did some reading....and I have to say...for My money?

Its the werewolf...I would become a werewolf hands down in a heart beat. Its not the power.....its the grace...the sheer feral grace of them. And they dont fight the rage...the embrace it....Its amazing....
