Well, at least all of us can read better than 20% of the country. WE ARE THE ELITE.... Scary..

At least they are trying lol.
Hear the "interesting" comment that quite a high proportion of those deemed to be "functionally illiterate" actually graduated from high school.

We have a similar phenomenon over here in the UK where a decline in educational marking standards has resulted in more and more people with the required diplomas but with NO change in the numbers of those who cant read write and add up very well.

I can remember when a pint of beer cost one and ten pence and gallon of petrol cost five and six.
requiring eight and tuppence or four and six change from a ten bob note. ie the old pound/shillings and pence system.
No calculators were available then. Is that why we are oldies but goodies ?

I was nobbing around Carnaby Street and the area trying to find Twiggy when they were trading bob for pound.

Kinda took the wind out of Bob's your uncle, wot?

Thruppendy bits and so on, I just reached into my pocket and held out all my money and said take what you need out of here, guv.  Bus drivers used to laugh, but proceed to do so, explaining exactly how and what this was doing.

I just said, buddy, I don't want to know.

And 10pm bar closings them days, outrageous!!!

I agree with the CNN report. I work in the public schools and can attest to the fact that students try not to read. We allow that to happen as well. We pass those students along illiterate or not. I've seen it done. And yes, one of my adult friends is functionally illiterate. Also yes, this forum attracts people who can read lolololol

I am not sure I see the difference between a video and text in getting a message across but I do agree that someone would never be able to approach the tax code or the legal system as an example without being quite literate.

My fear in all this and another part of that video states that 50% of the people are barely literate enough to hold a reasonable job.  I know this country has been slipping and lowered sat scores to "look" better, but I was shocked to hear them say that.

I believe this nwo thing all hinges on our ignorance and the only news to be had worth anything is all on the net and the greater majority of it must be read.

Uninformed, illiterate and emotional voters.  Sounds like a recipe for success to me.

Sounds like a good reason to make all the illegal immigrants citizens too doesnt it?
