worththeeffort -> And now for a vegan leather question... (8/15/2007 9:38:23 AM)

i'm becoming a pain i'm sure, repeating questions that i'm sure have been asked a million times, but i'm sure ya'll will forgive me ;-)

i think i've found an everyday collar (yay!) but now i need a playtime collar. i know www.veganerotica.com has a line of vegan "leather" collars and accessories, my question is, what's the quality like? i know nothing compares to the feel and smell of leather, but is this really a comparable substitute? i'd hate to have it arrive and be sorely disappointed. So anyone who has/had one of these vegan "leather" collars, what did you think of it?

Thanks everyone!

In my experience, not so much. You'd be better off with metal or a piece of significant jewelry that doesn't say "cheap ass punk wannabee"...

And who says it has to be a collar on your neck? Why not a ring? It also has some secondary associations that might be appropriate as well...

because i want a collar, not a necklace, or a ring, or a bracelet. and more importantly, he wants me to have a collar.

My suggestion on this, if you need/want something that would be functional for play, would be to get a high quality vinyl or pleather collar.  I have a pair of cuffs made of high quality "pleather" and they've not only stoode the test of time and play, but have fooled any number of people.  Hope this helps!

where would i locate "high quality" pleather? is it available at a typical crafts or fabric store?

I had it backwards - I thought you were looking for an everyday collar instead of a playtime one. Sorry.

Then yes - the veganerotica toys would work well for you. Kinda like them - but just not very good for long-term wearing. Regular pleather can be found lots of places, but the local upholstery oriented sewing store would be a good place to start. And on a crafty, make-your-own level another thing to consider is using rubber blankets, such as to be found in a printing supply shop for about $1-2 for a suitable size for a collar...

I know that my local Hancock Fabrics has a decent selection of it, yes, and the rings can be found at pretty much any craft or hardware store.  It's definately something that I would go to the store to pick out, not order online, that way I could get a good feel for it before buying.  Hope this helps!
