So, what Operating System is on the machine you use to get to CM? If you feel like it, share your flavor of OS as well...

e01n -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 12:16:17 PM)

My laptop is running Debian "Sid" Linux with strong incorporation of software from "Lenny"... and using FluxBox as my WM of choice

sappatoti -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 12:18:09 PM)

Mac OS X 10.4 on my two year old iBook 12".

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 12:18:53 PM)

KMsAngel -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 4:51:04 PM)

woo hoo! another mac user. you know they're just jealous of us when they sneer, right?

sappatoti -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 4:52:15 PM)

I look at it like that... or else they're grimacing because they have to reboot again to clear some stuff up.

;)

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 4:53:11 PM)

I have Vista

KMsAngel -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 4:57:09 PM)

poor Cuddle, it's alright, there's still life after Vista [8|]

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 4:58:33 PM)

I like Vista, it works good for me.

HydroMaster -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 7:16:27 PM)

Unix...ah the memories.  Anyone remember the original DOS?

sappatoti -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 7:19:26 PM)

Sure do. How 'bout CP/M? ProDOS or DOS 3.3 for Apple ][s?

e01n -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 7:44:25 PM)

er... I have my old ProDOS disks... ;) I also have boot tapes for a PDP-11/70 and a PDP-10...

We're a big dated at times...

HydroMaster -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 7:46:25 PM)

tapes?! rofl  [sm=biggrin.gif]

sappatoti -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 7:54:55 PM)

Here's a better one... I still have the punched paper tape for an old PDP-8, not to mention a case of punched cards for an old MDS-2100 and IBM-360.

e01n -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 8:05:18 PM)

Ah... but do you have the machines themselves? Serving no purpose but being conversation objects?

BTW - DEC made very solid rack mounts... almost good enough for playtime. But is VMS humiliation play in and of itself?

sappatoti -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 8:08:08 PM)

No, I don't have the machines. I might be able to squeeze in the PDP-8 amongst everything else, but the MDS-2100 and the IBM 360 would, together, fill up one bedroom in the house.

I hang onto that old media just as a tangible reminder where we were technologically speaking just 30 years ago.

e01n -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 8:21:40 PM)

I've 64k of memory for that purpose... Hand-wrapped cores... sexy!

sappatoti -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 8:24:58 PM)

I remember seeing those and learned that they were in the US space shuttles before they got their system upgrades. All I was thinking was... "Yikes!" But then, after I heard the explanation, core memory didn't suffer from erasure should the power be cut off... something kind of important while in orbit.

e01n -> RE: Non-Windows OS Poll (8/15/2007 9:58:37 PM)

Well, I should clarify...

It's 64k RAM from 1970, with 64k RAM from 1976 and 64k RAM from a C64... It used to be a demonstration piece from a place where I worked, to illustrate just how much better things have gotten. And that we were geek enough to still have a running PDP-11/70 that we still ran jobs on...
