OedipusRexIt -> Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/15/2007 10:46:07 PM)

For the sake of discussion, assume two flavors to choose from.

Assume you're hungry enough to pick one and eat it all.

Would you rather pick Vanilla-Pure, untouched and untrammeled, but likely to drip all over you....

or:

Would you choose a richly experienced (let's say "Chocolate") instead, wherein the flavors are all nicely melded together, you'll gobble it down, but it might reflect a bitter aftertaste...?

OR, put an entirely different way:

For those of you not presently in a relationship, would you prefer "converting" an eager vanilla, or would you prefer to adapt yourself to an experienced lifestyler?

Thoughts which immediately come to mind and can be succinctly put include:  A trainable blank canvas can afford the opportunity to create true art, however, new ventures carry uncertainty.  Likewise, a well-oiled machine need only learn to respond to a new driver..., however, if it was broken in incorrectly, mechanical difficulties could ensue.

People aren't flavors, canvas (although somestimes art!), or machines, but metaphors are useful, don't you think?

What are your thoughts?

Vanilla Ice Cream + Two shots of Anisette liquer.

OneEvilBastard -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/15/2007 11:26:48 PM)

For me, the corruption's definitely fun.

But the caveat has to be that they had the potential to go just as far.

So, I'd rather corrupt a vanilla as phrased but, were they only corruptable to a little light play vs. someone already dark and twisted, I'd definitely prefer the latter.

Chocolate all the way.  But choosing a Dom is a bit different to training a sub, I suppose.

Dnomyar -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 4:48:57 AM)

Choosing a Dom or training as sub is both a crapshoot.

bandit25 -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 4:51:42 AM)

This is a tough choice.  I can see advantages to both, but I guess I'd go with chocolate too.  YUM!

Jeffff -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 5:32:14 AM)

My last.scoop?....was vanilla, who wanted to be chocolate. No matter how much syrup I poured on her , it didn't seem to work...lol...so make mine chocolate. After all, the after taste is part of the whole taste..:)

I chose vanilla and I added chocolate chips.  I'd never rechoose my husband so if I have to pick...Vanilla.

rmanrr -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 5:59:53 AM)

Greetings
Chocolate with coconut and butterscotch sprinkles....hmmmm
(tongue in cheek as per usual)

I guess I just don't see it as a "conversion", just like I don't really see it as a "lifestyle".
For me it just isn't a choice, you either are or aren't and I am and always have been submissive.  I wasn't always "aware" of what I am, which caused alot of confusion and mental anguish in my life as I spent alot of time trying to be something I wasn't.   But just like you can't "convert" someone from being heterosexual to being homosexual (or vice versa), I don't think you can "convert" someone who isn't truely D/s or BDSM from being vanilla.
But then I also have some difficulty understanding how some people here can talk about their "vanilla" life as opposed to their BDSM life as I see myself as always being D/s BDSM all the time.  I may not talk about it or project it to everyone (mostly because it isn't any of their business) but I never stop being who I am.

Cordially,
minxy [:)]

I can relate to this perfectly. I am an artist by trade and inclination. And forever more I know I choose the blank canvas. Theres nothing better than the act of creation.

feastie -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 6:56:54 AM)

I've done both.  I can't say, at this point, that I have a preference, both have their good and bad points.

Padriag -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 7:04:21 AM)

One of each..... I'm poly. [:D]

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 7:10:41 AM)

I've no interest in converting someone- I also have no problem doing so if they happen to fall into my lap.  But I went enough years without getting what I wanted, I'm not going to make it harder on myself by starting in a big pool of clueless fish rather than a small pool of aware fish.

GhitaAmati -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 7:44:49 AM)

Im going to coldstone...you can choose from all sorts of flavors and the have all these neat things they will mix into the ice cream for you

What are your thoughts?

Okay, a serious answer.  My thought is I really don't care.  Its been discussed before and there are advantages and disadvantages, pros and cons, good and bad either way.  It is not a consideration for me whether a potential slave is experienced or fresh as a newborn.  What I do want to know is how serious she is?  Is this lifestyle what she really wants, has she thought about that and made an informed decision?  Is the particular style of life I offer what she wants and a good fit for her?

Give me someone sincere, serious, stable and willing to learn and I can teach them almost anything given time.  Someone experienced would almost certainly reduce how much I need to teach, but either way I want to see that she's serious about what she's doing.

Now all I gotta do is get the image of fish and ice cream outta my brain... [:'(] thanks Em [;)]

teamnoir -> RE: Vanilla-Pure, or Experience-Rich? (8/16/2007 9:06:19 AM)

I go back and forth. There are advantages to each and it depends a lot on the specifics and what I'm looking for at the time.

Overall, my preference would probably be for someone who's at least been through their initial issues. If they're still concerned about being "seen" online, or in person at munches, or constantly struggling with what any of this "means" about them, then I'm not sure I'd have the patience. Someone who's been through and resolved most of their issues around those is probably a better match for me, though they don't necessarily need multiple decades of experience.

I like to teach, so that's a plus. But I also like to learn, and people from whom I can genuinely learn from are fairly rare. So someone with multiple decades of good experience is a treasure in a completely different way.

Your make your point quite well.  I'll extend my metaphor a bit further, though, and ask this:  What was that one thing you tasted that you didn't know you loved, or could love, until you tasted it?  For me, sashemi.  Never thought I would like it, now consider it food of the Gods (my people!).

Granted, food and sex aren't interchangeable (or I'd be one fat guy) but do you see what I mean?  I have found those who simply had never tasted, didn't know... until shown.
