She has known him her entire life. He is her everything. Lover, Master, Shaman and friend. Raven is his name. Shunned for she is half Lakota half irish neither side wanted her. Or so she thought. Her father Dark Cloud is a lakota chief who renounced his title for her mother Morgan. Morgan is from county cork Ireland. Witch by birth she came to America to find her fortune. After years of hard work she moved to south dakota and bought herself a house and owned a new age herb shop which also carried various native american supplies. Falling in love with dark cloud she asked him if he knew what he was risking loving her.. Yes he replied and you are worth it i would kill for you, die for you, and i cant live without you. So they got married and the tribal council deemed it nessecary for him to renounce his title as chief. So he did but continued to give council as was his right as medicine man and shaman. and the tribe accepted him as such and he had his house on the reservation as was his right as full blooded sioux. Six months later Morgan came to him with the news of her pregnancy. Dark Cloud was overjoyed. six months later Little Wolf was born. Little Wolf was so named because the day she was born one of the she wolves that lived nearby the res came to the house with a 3 month old cub in her jaws and laid him at her cradle. after doing this she wagged her tail and trotted off into the night.
Wa Chi was the name he was given which means wild one in cherokee also in other native languages. where little wolf was he was her constant shadow. Hers was a happy childhood. And she had the best of both worlds. Born witch and shaman. let me tell you female shamans are rare almost unheard of. Her power was great and her spirt totem was wolf of course.
learning of magic from both parents and having such a loving and happy home she grew from mischevious child to beautiful precocious young woman. attending school on the res was hard and she was made an example of time and time again for being half white. but she didnt care, for she was loved and honored by friends and family. One day at school she had her hair braided in one long braid down to the top of her butt. she was so intent on what teacher was saying she didnt feel the pressure of someone picking it up and placing it on the desk behind her. Raven one of the local brats and a student of her fathers had taken his buck knife out of his pocket and nailed her braid to the desk. Bell ringing she tries to get up but falls right back into her chair the back of her neck stinging as she realizes the trick played upon her. Damn it swears 18 year little wolf knowing who did this. Nailed the wolf by the tail didnt i raven laughs as she struggles to remove the knife from her braid. Im going to kick your ass she snarls at him as she pulls the knife free and thank you for the gift she smirks and pockets the knife ive been looking for one of these. Hey raven cries realizing how serious she is. You want me to go to my father with this she taunts him, knowing what dark cloud would do and also knowing raven is realizing the same. fine keep the damn knife i have another but that one cost fifty bucks. You should have thought about that before doing something so freaking childish and hurtfull. Rubbing the back of her neck she thinks to herself that it dosent hurt as much as tingle. Not liking where her thoughts are going she leaves the room.
Walking home from school and it is quite a walk considering her house is on the outskirts of the res, little wolf whistles once tail wagging like a flag behind him wa chi bounds over to where she is. he is not the normal wolf and it is like he never aged. still acting like a cub instead of the 17 year old man he should be wa chi trots along side his charge. Having the gift of animal speak he told her years ago that he is her spirit guide and will stay with her forever if need be. continuing down the road she hears a truck headed her way. Need a ride little wolf raven calls and opens the passenger side door for her. Not from you she yells and keeps walking. It was only a joke he says and softly he whispers im sorry i hurt you . Damn she swears as wa chi jumps into the bed of the truck and looks at her like she's stupid. Fine you win she gives the wolf an evil look and climbs into raven's truck. Im heading to your house anyway he tells her. Your dad wants me to prepare the sweat lodge for tomorrow's sweat before the council meeting. Are you able to sweat. Blushing knowing what he's asking her she replies, yes i can sweat. Good he says knowing what she wears considering the heat level. Mixed sweat he says and his smile keeps getting bigger. Crap Why she asks? Grandmother Crow is sick and your mom is busy; has to go to rapid city for a convention. Shit i was supposed to go with her but dad asked me to stay here to help this weekend. Well are you sure you want to stay? he asks yes she tells him i have to mom agrees with dad and they have something up there sleeves , wondering what it is she thinks to herself. Knowing that her parents are planning on giving her the title of medicine woman and shaman and telling the council after hearing from the elders that even though she is half white the aknowledge her for what she is about to become, raven keeps quiet.
Telling herself that things will come to her in time they arrive at her house and her dad is standing on the porch. Hey little one he says to her and notices the connection between the two of them say goodbye to your mom before she leaves. Come with me he tells raven. Damn hes going to kill me raven thinks to himself. No im not im just going to talk to you and find our your intent towards my daughter. She's taking quite a shine to you. and wa chi likes you and your the first man that wolf has let near her besides me and that speaks volumes. and tells me that the two of you have one hell of a future together. C'mon now raven blushes and yes native american men can blush. You are 18 years old young man Dark Cloud tells him and i see the way you look at her and she you. Shes young yet but also woman she is 18 now and will be leaving to live with grandmother crow to learn her calling and power. How long Raven asks Dark Cloud? 5 years and she lives out in the painted dessert. Wow whistles raven 5 years thats not too long and she is worth the wait. Hand me your knife boy Dark Cloud tells raven so i can cut this string from the bundle of sticks out by the sweat lodge. Shit swears raven. What? asks Dark Cloud. Well id better tell you before she does so you can kill me now and get done with it. What did you do laughs Dark Cloud. I pinned her braid to my desk with my buck and she pocketed it. Good girl grinned her father. takes after her mom. I know raven says.
So morgan asks her daughter as she prepares the last of her items for the trade convention. So what? asks little wolf. Whats up with you and raven. Hell if i know she tells her mom. Language little one. yes mother rolling her eyes and laughing she says he is cute. He pinned my hair to the desk today with this and pulls the knife out of her pocket. Crap says her mom, you ok? Fine little wolf answers. It stung like the devil but other than that and the whole class laughing at me im fine. Men replied her mom they act like asses when they are sweet on a girl. Blushing Little Wolf says i know and im getting fond of him as well. Are you dancing at Pow Wow next week? Oh yes little wolf answers my dress is finally ready. Great just in time too. Black buckskin with rainbow beadwork and quills her grandmother had spent over a year making for her complete with leggings and moccasins. why am i worthy of such a gift? little wolf asks her mom. Ok ill tell you but you have to act suprised. Ok little wolf says her eyes lighting up hope rising as she waits for the words she wants to hear. Grandmother Crow is taking you as her student for the next 5 years starting after pow wow. Yes!! cries little wolf whooping and wa chi howling. Settle down your acting like a ten year old. I know i cant help it i know i can be the next med woman after Grandmother Crow. I know this you know this and i am so happy for you . you do realize that with power comes responsibility. yes mom. Women will be coming to you for help and advice and Crow woman will also show you how to walk the spirit paths. I know. And wa chi is going with you. of course Little wolf replys.
Council is this weekend and you are staying here. I know and im going to sweat. What are you wearing? Morgan asks her daughter. My buckskin bikini. ok just making sure. Then ill wait till then. nodding again wa chi goes out the open back door.
Next morning Little Wolf is up with the sun. Elders and the rest of the tribe are arriving for council the fire is ready and so is the sweat lodge. What are you wearing under that towel Dark Cloud asks Little Wolf. Just my rings answers Little wolf. Both of little wolf's nipples had been pierced as she had asked her parents permission to adorn herself. and they had said yes. Ok and ill be there, and if you get nervous ill keep an extra beach towel in the lodge for you. Looking at her sitting there with her eyes closed deep in prayer feeling the powe inside her and the sweat on her skin. I think im falling in love He says to himself. The weekend flys by and the meeting goes good Dark Cloud announces to the tribe that Grandmother Crow Woman will be taking little wolf to teach her for the next 5 years starting after pow wow. Everyone applauds and no one is angry as even though she is half white she is native in heart and spirit and will benefit the tribe with her skills and power. The next week passes in a blur, Morgan coming back with all sorts of new stuff for the store and gift for Little Wolf to have with her at grandmother crow's . Thursday night Little wolf Packs her truck with all her things and Gets ready to leave the house for 5 years. Well wa chi this is goodbye to the house for now. Relax he thought sends to her i am she sends back. No your nervous he sends back at her. This gift is very strong between the two of them. the telepathic link they share is unlike any other. He is wolf and shaman Spirit and animal. Physical guardian to a powerful woman. Thank you she sends and scratches his head. Arriving at the pow wow Little wolf sets up her tee pee away from everyone at the edge of the forrest. Wow she cant believe this day has come. I am so happy to go to grandmothers. Hearing the sound of the drum she donns her regalia and needs someone to put her bustle in her hair. May i raven askes coming up behind her and holding out his hand . Yes you may she says and gives it to him.. Putting the bustle in her hair they hear a noise and look Dark Cloud is smiling like a cat in the cream. Well my children you know what this means. Yes they say. We are now officially dating. Its about damn time. Getting in the dance line little wolf's heart is filled with joy and her mind with the man who will probably be her mate and husband.
Drumming and singing starting little wolf dances ladies traditional with her shawl and dance fan in hand. Hours go by and she dosent stop. Gods know when and if she will be at other pow wow's as busy grandmother is up at her place. at least i have this weekend. Dancers Calling all Dancers the mc calls on the mic. Two step Ladies choice if the man in question says no $50$ to the lady for refusal. Looking around she sees him and walks over to him offering her hand. People everywhere watching looking to see if they will finally hook up he takes her hand and leads her to the dance circle. Applause breaks out.
