Two nights ago I went out to my car to go to work. The time is 3:20 am. Yes, I know but there is never any traffic. Anyways, I see two teen age boys walking down the street. It turns out it is the the guy that lives across the streeet. He's 16 at the most. Should I let the parents know he was sneaking back into the house?

I'm going to go against the tide and say yes.
 
Too often, people complain about the way parents raise their children.  They are out doing this or that, and the parents just have no control.  Well, at 3:20 am, a lot of parents that I know are asleep.  Nothing wrong with helping them out a bit.
 
Personally, I wanted people to tell Me if they caught one of My UM's doing something they shouldn't.  I didn't like it so much when I was a kid, but I can promise you that, growing up in a small town, My Father got calls from time to time when people spotted Me places that I shouldn't have been.  The parents of said teenager will probably appreciate you letting them know.

Let me give advice from the perspective of someone who was 16 years old more recently compared to most other people here.

I'm out late, doing god knows what, prolly having fun, prolly fucking up, maybe just shamelessly wasting time whatever. I'm purposefully sneaking out because I dont wnat my mom to find out, you come along, tell her, and I get my ass busted, my friends who I have been up till then consistantly hanging out with ask me whats wrong, I tell them all about you, I know where you live, when you are home and when your not cause after all, I live right across the street from you.

As a 16 year old degenerate bastard, you can imagine the immense amount of options I have at my disposal with friends who like to sneak around late night that would serve me well in getting my revenge on you, ranging from the typical white-bread bullshit, to the more.....fucked up, depending on how much of a massive teenage dick I am...plus just how much you pissed me off.

Now ask yourself...still wanna tell my mom?

I would talk to the neighbor kid. Tell him you saw him sneaking into back into his house. That alone could be enough to curb his activities, it could have just been a one time thing.
Plus you never know how the parents may react or over react so I really would approach the kid first.

Rummy, yes, because no matter you can come up with, I am older and have better insurance. Not to mention, the friends and aquaintances I have made over the years that could make any 16 year old boy's life, pure hell. Trust me, I can always come up with something more evil.

As a mom, hell yea! I am with LaT. My child better never think he/she can get away with anything without mom having the upper hand. Anyway....now why would i tell him (or her for my situation) where my source is? and trust me....i know people who would make the kid and all his hoodlems life hell.

Just going to say this, when I was 17. I was out late 3am or 2am not very often. Normally home by 11pm if we were out but my parents always knew where I was, and had my cell. All I'm going to say some times the parents might have let the child stay out that late. Then again I was always pulling up in my car at that time.

Plus, I was the good girl. I never got into trouble.

And now I'm 24, my neighbors across the street still talk to my parents about me.

okay so you two want to basically start a kind of war with a 16 year old, the superiority ideal isent going to work in this case, exactly what percantage of 16 year olds do you think plain ol logic and/or reason is gonna work on?

and in the end...hes 16, your adults, if things really do get out of hand and the kid plays his cards right you really think your gonna come out of the stuation clean?

cmon!

He does soemthing to me well then I know people and I'm gonna do a shitload of stuff back to him.
