I have to go out of town tomorrow for a job. I'll probably only be gone for six or seven days, but I can't take my cats (Otis and Daisy) with me. I find that, whenever this happens, I am always a little bit down the night before I have to leave. I have a very good catsitter and the kitties are always kept indoors, so I know it's unlikely that anything bad will happen, but dammit, I am gonna MISS them. I take them with me whenever I can, but this time it's not an option.

Well, that's it...just wanted to whine a bit. Thanks for listening.

Bob, that's sweet. We have a 15 year old cat that has never gone outside, and somehow got out the other day, to chase a strange cat that had wandered into our yard. We hunted for our cat (his name is George, btw) for almost two hours and finally found him hiding under our next door neighbors grill. He was so scared he had been afraid of moving even when we called him. I sympathize with you,,,kitties rule the roost!!!

Thanks, kc692 and imtempting! It's nice to know others are sympathetic. Both of mine are seasoned travelers, so I always take them if I know the hotel will allow them. Sometimes it's just not possible, though. I figure our time on this world is finite and every day spent away from them is one we never get back. Sheesh....that sounded alot grimmer than I meant it to.

Aww... furballs. I miss mine when I have to go to work. Or when I see another cat somewhere... or when I haven't seen them in a few hours.... Especially Gizmo. He's my little man.

Gizmo...great name! Actually, so is George. I used to have a cat named George and I had a friend...also in southern California with a cat named Gizmo.

Yeah, I miss mine a little when I'm at work, even if I'm not out of town and will be home in a few hours. I'm a real sop when it comes to the wee furry ones.

My parents still need to find a way to get my furry babies to me

On another note, anyone know possible reasons why a 3 1/2 month old kitten wouldn't be getting much bigger than she was at around 6 weeks, just fatter?

Bob, I'm going to gone as of tonight for THREE WEEKS... I was just away from Friday until Monday and that was bad enough. I always miss my babies when I go away (and I have a few more than you do <wink>). On top of that, while I'm gone one will be having her Sweet 16 and another will be turning 15; she has health issues and I really am nervous about being gone for that long, but I have to work.

Anyway, I know how you're feeling....

I hate to say this Calliope, but you should have her to the vet and get some bloodwork done. Is the "fatness" only in her abdomen?

cello,

Three weeks? That would be rough. I think the longest I've been away from Otis was a month and I haven't had to go away for that long in the three years since I found Daisy. Someone from the office just called and gave me some info that makes me think I can knock this project out and be home by the weekend. That would be good.

Calliope: I agree with cello in saying you should get your cat checked out. Maybe she is just a small type of cat, like my Daisy, but I would want to know for sure whether or not anything is wrong. If she has parasites or some other condition, she could end up with problems much worse than being small with a paunch.

Bob, I've had to be away from them for longer than that even, and hated every minute of it. The best part is coming home and they're always so happy to see me :)

As far as Calliope's kitten goes, I hope it's only something like parasites.... at her age, depending upon where she came from, the first thing that came to my mind was wet-form FIP. Now that would be very sad....

I totally sympathise with you about having to leave your furballs at home ... I'm only going to be missing them for one night and I'm depressed.

Her brother and mom are normal sized and my mom says that she's just getting a big tummy. I can beg nicely to have my mom take her in, but money is tight for them. Guess I'll just hope for the best and think of getting my own kitty here. Homes without animals just don't feel right.

Calliope, your mom is most likely wrong (if she's right I'll be the first to admit being wrong too).

Home without animals don't feel right, I agree with you there, but homes that don't have the means to care for them sufficiently shouldn't have them either.

Not trying to be nasty or anything, just stating the facts ma'am....

Maybe she's just gonna be a small kitty.

My Luna is 3. She hasn't changed in size since she was abot 6mo. Just got fatter :) though we try to keep her runnin'

I'd take the fuzzy to the vet, though, just to be sure there's no medical stuff.

Ah. I just read about money. I'm kinda hardnosed about that. Have they been dewormed? That can cause stuff like that.

Also, a general check up is usually no more thatn$30, I can afford it, and if I can on my budget, anyone can :)

OMG I can't believe that y'all have to be away from your snuggle-butts for so long - one night drove me nuts.

Not dewormed, but that's like the first thing I'll do when/if she gets here. And I think I'll ask (read: beg nicely and hope that my status as beloved oldest daughter means I can get my way) if she can get taken to the vet's on one of their days off.

One of my feline friends looks like a bedroom slipper with feet. She's the fluffiest thing I've ever seen. She's short, compact and for a while had the biggest barrel belly. I worried. Mom wondered. I fussed. Mom grumbled. I told her, "She's got worms." Mom packed her away and off we went. Sure enough... worm city. She was a shelter kitty and an orphan before that. After she was dewormed she deflated like a week old balloon.

She's still a short furball with feet.

Yes, sometimes I do call and let the machine take the call. I don't know if they hear it and, if they do, I don't know if it makes them feel any better...but it makes ME feel better.

Yes...I am BACK! We got the job done in less than four days. Now I am hoping I won't have to work out of town for the rest of the year.
