ORIGINAL: loveslaveowner How appalled they were to learn that a slave can be purchased for $90. Damn. Prices must have dropped rather drastically. I'd expect to pay at least USD 150. Some apparently charge as much as USD 1.500, although I expect that's when there are special requirements involved (e.g. North Americans cost way more than Chinese or East Europeans) or somesuch. quote:
[...]high privacy fences[...] Check. quote:
[...]trash and junk strewn around the property[...] Any idea why this is? quote:
[...]a high number of people living in a single house.[...] Sounds like they are after sex slave brothels, more than privately owned slaves. Which makes sense, as the latter implies a wealthy household. Kind of like how they arrest anyone suspected of smoking crack, but leave Hollywood alone for the most part. Going after wealthy people has never been a popular pastime for law enforcement. quote:
The big one was how so many of these slaves are used for sex, implying forced prostitution. ~nods~ Very common trend. Although those are of a different sort. Which may explain the lower prices. The difference between being sold as a slave (and basically told you are one), and being told you owe them lots of money and have to "work off your debt" before you can be free, etc... quote:
So, Texas slaves may have local law enforcement fighting to liberate them and owners would have their doors knocked down and be carted off to jail because their fence is too tall, they did not clean up the trash that blew in over the weekend, and more than one person lives in a single house. A bit over the top, but no doubt the police could crack down on some M/s relationships whenever they need a bit of good publicity to cover up the latest case of police brutality, or need some popular support in an election year, or whatever. Mostly, though, I doubt that's a very hard problem to avoid, if they are going by so general markers.
