Wrote this the end of June after some idle day-dreaming.

Most of you will be familiar with the fable of Rapunzel, and how she was locked away in a tall tower which no one could climb. There she stayed, awaiting her Prince Charming.
Not that there weren't a lot of Prince Charmings who didn't try. Which is where the following thoughts seemed to find themselves.
<Foot of 1000' tall tower)
Prince Charming # 524 (hand to his chest, looking up):
Fair Rapunzel. I am here to rescue you!
Rapunzel (stifles yawn, saunters over to balcony and looks over edge with a baleful eye. Waves half-heartedly and allows lips to transform into a near-sincere smile):
Oh Prince Charming (or whatever). I will be forever grateful if you can get me down from here (or say something original, I'm easy).
PC 524 (boyish grin pasted on his face, palms sweaty and an almost comedic inability to walk without stumbling):
O Boy! ... er ... Beautious One! I have brought a ladder!
(looks at 12' ladder made of branches of various sizes and trees rigged together with twisted strands of grass and mud that appears to have been used as a glue. While looking at it, this 'structure' collapses and turns to dust)
(hastily changing the subject):
Well ... uh ... I'm a very good rock climber!
(memory kicks in of time when he was five and fell down on a rock and cried till his Mom came and kicked his butt for being a sissy)
(clears throat, deepens voice)
Yes I am a very good rock climber.
(Looks up the wall, recalls fear of heights)

(Up above, Rapunzel observes this with a jaundiced eye, she mutters):
Great! Another suicide who wants to go out a hero!
(She calls down):
O do be careful! It's a very long way up.
(Rapunzel retreats to her bed, where she consumes bon bons and watches Oprah. Outside she can hear the clatter of armour as PC tries to get his climb going and then falls to the ground ... again and again and again and again and ...)
...
(3AM ... balcony ... Rapunzel):
WILL YOU KNOCK IT OFF ALREADY ?!? THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO GET SOME SLEEP HERE !!!
(3:01AM ... foot of the tower ... PC picking himself up from his latest fall):
I almost had it that time, my love. It is that first step. There be sorcery upon it, this I vow. But I will have the best of it, for nothing can stop a pure love such as mine.
(3:02AM ... inbound ... one bon bon box)
POW !!!
(PC looks up):
ow!
(3:02:10AM ... inbound ... one Acme safe)
POW !!!
(Rapunzel grins, brushes dust off hands, and turns about and returns to her bed)
