I just finished folding a few loads of laundry and it happened again, I ran out of hangers before all the clothes were hung. I do laundry about twice a week and every time I run out of hangers so I go out and get a dozen more (they are 12/$1 at the discount store) yet every time I go to hang up the clothes again I don't have enough. There is no other explaination, someone is stealing my hangers right out of the closet! Beware and keep your hangers safe!

Hm. Maybe they've run off to Bora Bora with all of the left socks that go missing. Or the pens... where in the world have all of the 'I bought a pack of 10 just 5 days ago' pens gone?

LOL, I had just come back to say that maybe they had run off to Narnia with all the mates of the mountain of mis-matched socks I have (seriously, there are only two of us and we have about 40 socks without mates, and that's only about a months worth!)

Its ghosts I tell you! Ghosts!

I have them too, and figure they are entitled to use clothes hangers and socks as well, so I just continually replace them and when my owner asks...I start babbling about ghosts

Ah, so that explains it.
See, I just went up and counted hangers and we have 77. By my count we should have the 80 or so that we moved in with plus the 50 or so that I have bought since then (mind you we have only lived here for a month)

I will tell you a little secret.
If you turn out the light and close the closet door and leave all the hangers alone for 48 hours, when you open the door...Aha!!! they have mated and they are all tangled up! Caught in the act! But there are more of them, because the baby hangers were born. The gestation period is extremely minimal.
Caveat: This only works with the terrible wire hangers you get from the dry cleaners. The fancier pastic hangers have all been sterilized.

I was under the impression that it was that pesky monster in my closet munching on my good plastic hangers and pooping out the crappy (sorry for the pun) metal hangers....

I think my closet monster must be constipated. The plastic hangers are disappearing, but there are no wire hangers yet. Maybe I need to leave him some Dulcolax

Are these normal run of the mill hangers or those nicer one's with the clips for skirts or slacks? I do think elves steal the normal run of the mill ones, but partners have been known to steal the others. Have you had a run of brattiness lately?

Actually, I have noticed that the metal ones disappear much, much more slowly (and sometimes not at all!) than the plastic ones or the better quality hangers. At one time I had considered only using the cheap and flimsy metal hangers because I could always count on them to still be there when needed.

They are just the simple plastic ones. And my partner cannot be stealing them, we share a closet, he would have no place to hide them!

Shhhh...there is no closet monster. Just a very high libido for certain hangers, because they are just *wired* that way.

Since I speak with some authority on this very controversial subject, I am sorry to have to tell you that Dulcolax will not help. There is no monster to take it.

I also have this problem with eating utensils!

It's like forks, knives and spoons seem to disappear and reappear at random.

One month I'll have 16 spoons, knives and forks.

Next month, I have 6 spoons, 12 knives, and 14 forks.

A month later, I have 22 spoons, 1 knife, and 422 forks ...

(I also encounter a similar problem with my favourite mocha lip liner - one month, I have none, next month, I have four, ten, 2, none, etc.! *Growls*)

Okay ... I'm exaggerating, but you catch my gist!

I am sorry for the loss of your hangers. :( LOL!

There are plenty of places to hide hangers. I buy more every month like clockwork. Doug hangs up his clothes...can't find a hanger. Takes one from my side. Down one...depending on how much laundry he takes it upon himself to do in a week I can be down ten hangers.

He hides them under his clothing.

Ah but see, he doesn't know how to do laundry properly (he puts it all in the dryer *gasp*) so I am the only one that does the laundry. When it comes time to put things way I take all the hangers from both sides and there are never enough

I'm always losing socks and have to put out an APB (Be on the lookout for a lone sock! They usually travel in pairs)!

WHO IN THE HELL IS DOING ALL THIS LAUNDRY?????????

It went from winter to summer here in a split second; i still have not worn all my summer clothes; so i have not done laundry in over a month. Gawd, how i despise it; sorting; washing; drying; folding; putting away.

Yes, my socks go missing; have been doing all my life. It's a fact of nature. Just buy the same type of socks so they will always match.

Yes, hangers disappear, especially nice ones. Give it up. Any article of clothing You own that is so precious it deserves a fancy hangar should be carefully folded with tissue paper and put away in a plastic box. Fancy hangars are edible by closets; it's just the way of the world.

Your silverware is disappearing because you wash it too much. Wait at least 3 weeks between washings. That way you'll lose much less. If you need a clean fork befoe the end of the 3 weeks, just wash one.

Any more housekeeping questions? ROFLMAO

Siamsa, we have about 100 extra hangers ... we don't know where they all came from (well, some of them we do, we inherited some when we moved into this house ... and yeah, we'll probably be taking them with us, just because). We don't lose them, they multiply on us (apparently, someone didn't sterilize them properly - these are the plastic ones, I pitch all the wire ones that I find). Perhaps I should send you a few of our non-sterilized ones to produce new ones for you.
