[:(]I went to the hospital after experiencing more pain and it seems that my gall bladder is fine thank God.but after blood work comes back my liver enzymes were 10x the normal amount..of course, the first thing they suspect is hepatitis which I KNOW will be negative because i was tested for it when Ron passed away...what else could make liver enzymes high? The doctor did mention that because I gained so much weight rapidly over the years, even though I am losing much now, it could have slightly affected my liver...other than that, I'm in perfect health..of course, I will worry til the other blood tests come back

When my liver enzymes shot into dangerous levels, my docs determined that it was from acetaminaphen found in Tylenol products. At the time I was taking them everyday for headaches plus threw a couple of the sinus variety in when the allergies kicked up. This got to be a serious concern when I was put on several different "cocktail" type of drug therapies later on. Once the docs pulled me off acetaminaphen, the liver enzymes eventually returned to the high side of normal. To this day, I have to indicate to medical peeps that I can't have acetaminaphen products else my liver spikes.

I'm not saying that this is the cause of your problem. There are multiple reasons for increased liver enzymes. Still, it may not hurt to discuss with your doc the possibility of drug interactions as a possible catalyst, if not a cause.

The first thing they worry about is hepatitis....[&:] asking me if i ever traveled outside the U.S. ..ate weird mushrooms..lol...I refuse to worry about that being I have been tested clean for it...whatever God hands to me I will deal with.

I got your email and thankyou for your concerns- my insurance cards should be in the mail today or tomorrow and I am having a full evaluation- my doctor is just as concerned as I am.[:)]

Krissi....

I take the exact same meds in the dosages that you do, and have never had any problems like the ones you describe.  The synthroid and effexor xr have been permanent in my life for over 7 years.  I haven't read the side effects lately, but don't think any of the problems you describe are attributed to the meds.  And my diet is all over the place, hot, spicy, lots of veggies, poultry, garlic.....my stomach is pretty much cast iron!

I just read about your liver enzymes......at least you have a place to start, but try not to worry until you know for sure!  Yeah, that's easier said than done, and I've worked myself into quite a frenzy before over some.  As already stated, DON'T wait for your insurance cards to come...your doc's office should be able to confirm your coverage just by you telling them what company you have.....there have been lots of times I forget the damn things, and the doc's office gets what they need to know in one phone call.

Good luck!  Feeling sick all the time is miserable.

You may want to ask the doctor if you could be having partial bowel obstruction. I was having similar symptoms off and on, and assumed it was due to stress, etc, and just toughed through until I felt better.

Then one day, the pain did not go away, and I had not had any passage of gas since the previous day. I started having some vomiting, and finally went to the ED. They did a CT scan and said I had an obstruction of the small bowel, probably due to adhesions from previous abdominal surgery I'd had some years ago. I did not need surgery for this. They put me in the hospital, and stuck a tube down my nose, and finally, after 8 days, the obstruction went away. After that experience, I will NEVER underestimate the importance of being able to fart, when needed. *L*

I had to be readmitted 4 days after that discharge, because of a partial obstruction. That is where you have the pain and feel bloated for a while, then better for a while (although you may have diarrhea), etc. No nose tube this time, just IV fluids. I hope it does not happen again, because then I might need surgery.

Have they done an abdominal CT scan yet? Even a plain xray of the abdomen will show the intestines dilated above the obstruction, and empty below it. A GI series of xrays after drinking barium may help prove or disprove this, too.

(edited to add) My husband's liver enzymes were elevated, even though he tested negative for hepatitis, didn't drink, and did not use tylenol. An ultrasound of his liver showed that he has "fatty liver", where fat deposits end up in the liver and cause elevated enzymes. The doctor said he may never have any problems due to this, but because his enzymes will always test as elevated, the blood bank won't allow him to donate blood again, because of the enzymes elevation.
