What motivates me?  Simple....because it feels good to love someone else.  Even the bittersweet nature of unrequited love still has a goodness to it.

The Law...
"Love is the Law, love under will."

Well, not really as simple as that. If I accept the theological toss that something that for lack of a better term could be called God exists and it's omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient, then the simplest conclusion is that God is in all things and contains all things (though whether that's the limit or not is kinda beyond the scope of this discussion). So if I'm part of God and you're part of God, then I should love you much as I enjoy my foot or other pieces parts...

Even people I dislike for their actions, I love them enough to be honest with them in my dislike of what they're doing. For example, the pedophile who was emailing FemDoms here yesterday: I feel for him, but his behavior and threatened actions were inappropriate for this place... I love him enough to help him see why he's being inappropriate, and I love others enough to protect them from him.

I'm such a hippie... ;)

what worries me about those who claim the opposite is how, in many, that "love" can quickly turn to hate.

I think I posted this in another thread, but from my perspective, both hatred and love are a form of connection to another person.

They are simply flip sides to the same coin.

For me, when I am done, I turn and walk away into the distance, say only complimentary things about the individual, and cleanse my soul of the connection.

Simply because I am human and I care. Other than that, I'm not sure. Love has a wide spectrum, and there are all kinds of different loves. And different ways to love.

YES to all those things (especially the highlighted parts), and add a desire to shed my clothes when I see or speak with him, because otherwise, he will be lovable, but not someone I can consider loving long term.    M

This reminds me of the reply I used to have when people used to comment about how nice the X seemed, and why did we split...
I used to say, "he is nice, so much so that I felt I should give other women the chance to enjoy it, and not keep it all for myself."    M

What motivates you to love others?
I think it comes from a state of selflessnes.  An unconditional gratitude and deeper connected relation that is experienced. Realized through my feelings. Not contrived , nor weighed and thought out simply by attributes that I approve of.
I can't recall ever making the conscious decision to sincerely love another. I just became aware that I did.

Buying me dinner first................ And getting me drunk would help, too.

love is selfish.  this is a hard concept to grasp.   you be what i wish you to be or i walk.

anyhow we had a whole adult Sunday school on the is topic.  at 1st the idea is foreigne. best i can line it up with- let a butterfly go - and if it comes back to you it was ment to be. if it doesnt - it isnt.

see?

I have strangers hitting on me infrequently in my online journeys.

My usual response is exactly what you posted, nyrisa.

Although if they persist I point out that the road to get to Mr. Tiny goes through my brain.

I am not used to detouring that far to get to the happy ending with a man, Sinergy, but for you, I think the extra mileage might just be worth it. *grins*

Time on my side
I got it all
I've heard that pride
Always comes before a fall
There's a rumour goin' round the town
That you don't want me around
I can't shake off my city blues
Everyway I turn I lose

Chorus
Love is like oxygen
You get too much you get too high
Not enough and you're gonna die
Love gets you high

Time is no healer
When you're not there
Lonely fever
Sad words in the air
Some things are better left unsaid
I'm gonna spend my days in bed
I'll walk the streets at night
To be hidden by the city lights city lights
 SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like only yesterday
I left my mind behind
Down in the Gypsy Cafe
With a friend of a friend of mine
She sat with a baby heavy on her knee
Yet spoke of life most free from slavery
With eyes that showed no trace of misery
A phrase in connection first with she I heard
That love is just a four-letter word

Outside a rambling store-front window
Cats meowed to the break of day
Me, I kept my mouth shut, too
To you I had no words to say
My experience was limited and underfed
You were talking while I hid
To the one who was the father of your kid
You probably didn't think I did, but I heard
You say that love is just a four-letter word

I said goodbye unnoticed
Pushed towards things in my own games
Drifting in and out of lifetimes
Unmentionable by name
Searching for my double, looking for
Complete evaporation to the core
Though I tried and failed at finding any door
I must have thought that there was nothing more
Absurd than that love is just a four-letter word

Though I never knew just what you meant
When you were speaking to your man
I can only think in terms of me
And now I understand
After waking enough times to think I see
The Holy Kiss that's supposed to last eternity
Blow up in smoke, its destiny
Falls on strangers, travels free
Yes, I know now, traps are only set by me
And I do not really need to be
Assured that love is just a four-letter word

(Dylan)
