Mmmmm my guess is that english is his second language. He lives in Brazil, after all - and to be fair (since I'm living not too far from Brazil) it is VERY common to live with your parents until you are married in Latin America. I think about 80% of my single friends - male and female - live with their parents here, the oldest being 34 years old. My roommate is 35 years old, and JUST moved out of his mothers home this year.
As to the question of his 'orientation' when you sign up to this site, it doesn't give you the option of listing yourself as 'vanilla' or 'newbie.' You pick Dom, sub/slave, or Switch. If I didn't know what those things meant, I'd probably just pick the first option (again, especially if english isn't my first language.) He only has one interest and one skill listed - probably again the bare minimum. If he's pulling our leg, he's gone to a lot of trouble to do so.
Doug, I also suggest that the best thing to do is to just talk to your girlfriend. Tell her that you enjoyed what happened (if you did), and that there's nothing crazy about it. Since you're probably a bit far from local munches, doing research online would be a good way to get over some of your fears. Have her look at this site a bit (if she speaks english - or use http://babelfish.altavista.com to help with translations) and do a search on http://www.castlerealm.com
Above all, communication is really important here. Just be honest about how you feel. If you are open and honest about how you feel, you'll have a much better possibility at repairing the damage caused by the embarressment.
And respectfully everyone else who jumped on this guy out of the gate, perhaps you might consider editing your posts. If he's insincere, it will show in the long run. Until then, try to remember the first time YOU came in contact with people who liked whips, chains, and weren't afraid to talk about it.
