ok- will replacement windows increase my taxes?

will unused porch enclosure?

silly they make you get a permit to fix op ones own place!!!

It kind of sucks, but yeah. Each locality has its own rule for what needs a permit and what doesn't.

I think taxes only go up if you add to your home to make bigger. I put in new windows in my home and my taxes weren't affected

There are, but I think that's a fed program. And as fed program's go, it's got its substantial list of prerequisites to try to muddle through in order to determine one's eligibility for the tax breaks.

I put new windows and a porch on my home and my taxes went up because the value of the property went up. Each locality has its own set of rules about how they estimate your tax liability.

It all depends upon where you live. However the improvements you are talking about will increase the value of your home AND, probably make it more energy efficient which will save you money on utilities.

As far as the permit, that really depends upon where you live. I could build a whole house where I live without one but across the road (in the next county) I would need one. Three counties north, not only do you need a bazillion permits but you also need to pay an inspector to come out for every step. If it does not pass, then you rip it out and do it over and pay the inspector to come out again.
