cyberdude611 -> The primaries are a mess!! (8/25/2007 3:24:59 PM)

Every state is trying to leapfrog in front of another and now it is looking like the Iowa caucus might take place just after Christmas this year followed by the New Hampshire primary just after New Years. The problem is Michigan which is poised to jump up to January 15th. A major delegate-rich state can alter the entire presidential election. States that have their primary before Feb 5th (other than Iowa, SC, NV, and NH) face stiff penalties from the two political parties. The Republican party will penalize the state by striking half its delegates. But Democrats go further after a rules committee said that any state that holds a primary or caucus before Feb. 5th will forfeit their entire party delegation in the convention. Why not just have a national primary day where every state votes at the same time? The current system is archaic and unfair to a great majority of the nation. What makes people in NH, IA, SC, and NV so much more special than everyone else?
