Okay, so in the "What things do you collect" post, a lot of people mentioned playing/collecting Magic cards. So here's a post about it!
I collect foil cards and then play with a couple of different decks. My absolute favorite is my swamp deck. I used to have 4 avatars of woe in it (it's my favorite card), but I think someone took one. My strategy: Get as many big and beefy black creatures out as soon as possible. There's also a lot of vampires in it, but that wasn't planned lol. I've also got a fast-burn deck (except it's not legal in most tournaments because I use old cards), and a sliver deck.... the old slivers none of these re-made new fangled ones.

Anyway, who else plays/collects/knows what magic is? It'd be cool to hear about other people's decks and experiences. *grin* Magic was how I hooked my first boyfriend in highschool. I'm such a geek lol.
Cheers,
~fp

I know of the game... and I enjoy playing it from time to time. But the decks I started experimenting with belong to my ex boyfriend. I really enjoyed his green, red, white, black and sliver decks. His blue deck was obnoxious.

Anyway... I don't have many other friends who know of or are interested in the game. And since I learned with his cards which are mainly older cards I haven't been motivated to go out and get myself some. I want the decks that he's crafted. -grumbles-

Well, there's always Vintage (Type 1) format for the people that play with old cards. www.magicthegathering.com has a Tournament Center explaining all the blocks legal in different formats, banned/restricted lists, and so on and so forth.

I play red (burn, baby, burn) and, if I don't win, I'll sure as hell drive you nuts in the process of losing. Dammit, now I'm thinking about changing my sig to my favorite bit of flavor text.

Hey, I play (usually) Flying deck with white / blues or a white / black. I do have heavy green deck I use occasionally for muscle and trampling. Demon plays a red white or green combination of two of the three colours depending on His mood.

And... I sometimes play pure angel hand(surprise-surprise!).... bugger in the beginning... but after a few hands, becomes really mega powerful...

Magic - ya just gotta love it.

Peace and Love

The angel deck would kill me if you actually managed to get going against all my direct damage and land destruction. I can't handle an assault by air.

Huzzah!

My partner and I both played magic. We recently picked up some cards to try again, but the rules/cards are all screwy. It reminds me more of stuff like YuGiOh now.

I liked the early stuff.

I like the card game "Munchkin" by Steve Jackson. It has many many powerful cards. However, the Card Game "Lunch Money" has the Hail Mary card. How do you compete against that?

But when it comes to MtG, I like having Goblin, Fire, and Death decks. It's what I call my Rape Kill Pillage and Burn EAT THE BABIES deck.

My deck of choice is unoficially called "I Hate This and This and This and That...oh, and you." Yeah, I just kill whatever I can as fast as I can. And to out-geek everyone, I'm gonna post the decklist. http://gatherer.wizards.com is a place to search by card titles if you don't know what the hell the cards do.

22 Mountain

3 Frostling
3 Vulshok Sorcerer
4 Spark Elemental
4 Slith Firewalker

1 Goblin Charbelcher
2 Furnace of Rath
3 Pulse of the Forge
3 Desperate Ritual
4 Magma Jet
4 Stone Rain
4 Molten Rain
3 Flamebreak

Yeesh, I hate burn decks with a passion.... that's probably why I built one myself lol! But my pride and joy is my swamp deck. Which I call "You never thought you'd see these creatures in play" deck. I'll be a geek too and post the decklist also:

22 swamp

3 Seal of Doom
2 Soul Feast
2 Cabal Ritual
2 Mind Sludge
2 Annihilate
2 Do or Die
1 Morbid Hunger
1 Plague Wind
1 Steal Strength

4 Organ Grinder
3 Avatar of Woe
2 Sengir Vampire
2 Mephidross Vampire
2 Chainer, Dementia Master
1 Repentant Vampire
1 Baron Sengir
1 Stalking Bloodsucker
1 Crypt Angel
1 Frightcrawler
1 Rathi Intimidator
1 Rathi Assassin
1 Laquatus's Champion

I don't much like all the newer cards they've added. The rules have become so confusing and you have to sit there and study the phraseology of each card to know what rules apply. I think I stopped building decks after Torment because of it.

I'm not as much of a rules geek as the friend who taught me how to play, but I'm pretty good with most of the complicated issues I read about. You can find the rulebooks, both comprehensive and beginner's version, at www.magicthegathering.com

Dammit, now I wanna go buy more cards, but I'm broke.

*sigh* me too.
Oh! I completely forgot about my poor little squirrel deck! That one got me to the final round in a local tournament once.
